Liverpool Football Club 2023/24

Xavi staying on at Barca, might Klopp be convinced to do likewise now?

A great night for the Irish club of Liverpool city #UpTheToffees

Van Dijk blaming his team mates and the ref here.

Youā€™re only as good as your last game.

Thereā€™s no sympathy in this game for anybody

Thatā€™s a very good summation. Strangely Iā€™d say the Arsenal (A) and Man City games (A) were the only occasions where the opposition had higher xG in the league this season. Not that itā€™s a foolproof barometer of success or anything. Itā€™s clear Liverpool are creating enough chances but just arenā€™t ruthless enough when they do.

Probably the Spurs (A) game too actually but that had the mitigating factor of playing with 9 men. Thereā€™s been very few games if any where theyā€™ve been outplayed.

xG :rofl::rofl:
Did they win more corners as well?

Says yer man bragging about academy graduate minutes?:sweat_smile: I wouldnā€™t be a great believer in xG but the laptop nerds love it Iā€™d say. Creating plenty of chances but not finishing them.

The Abu Dhabi game was a harbinger of future woes in front of goal but the FA Cup game against Manchester United started the rot in front of goal for real. We spent an hour trying to walk the ball into the net. Weā€™ve barely been able to hit a barn door since. Even the Forest game at the beginning of March was a tell. It was reminiscent of Arsenalā€™s late win against Bournemouth last year. People wanted to believe it was the sort of result that wins titles, but in reality it was the sort of performance which showed the team was knackered and wouldnā€™t be able to keep it up until the end of the season.

Yeah that 1-1 draw against Man City was a sickener. It actually felt like a defeat after that gilt edged chance that Diaz fluffed. Liverpool needed a signature win to really embellish their title bid and that was the opportunity.

Tonight wasnā€™t entirely surprising. The only surprise was that it wasnā€™t 1-0. Everton have made a real knack of beating ā€œbig 6ā€ teams 1-0 at home, late on in the season when battling relegation. Wins against Chelsea and Yanited under Lampard and then the 1-0 against Arsenal last season.

The writing was on the wall early tonight. When Nunez missed that chance I immediately mentally filed the game away as one of those nights.

Ā£78m he spunked on Nunez.
