I read that Athletic article about Chelsea/Boehly/FFP that someone posted yesterday & it was very interesting. Iâve now come around to @BruidheanChaorthainn âs view thatâs heâs actually a shrewd operator & tbh I can accept anything that irks Murderpool & their despicable fans.
Liverpools issue is theyâve kept their squad together too long and the wage bill increased as players renewed their deals and the assets decreased as players got older.
Now maybe the Saudis will save them but who knows.
Ac Milan In the 00s were an example the team grew very old and players retired on huge wages. Left the club with no money.
Barcelona similar had a group of largely youth academy graduates on insane money around 2013. They didnât want to sell any players so their wage bill went out of control.
Messi, xabi, pique, iniesta, Alves and busquets all retired on huge deals with the club getting no transfer income.
Thatâs why fergusons United were so good. They sold fellas before they went to shit until probably the last couple of seasons under him. They constantly signed younger players too as replacements.
Liverpool could end up in awful mess unless the Saudis keep helping them. Still even that itâs hard to replace 6 or 7 players in a short period.
Liverpool are 5th in the wage bill table. Behind the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea. Newcastle will overtake Liverpool at some stage in the near future given their spending power now.
Liverpoolâs wage model is highly based on bonuses and incentives. Hence it was high when we won it all. Will fall dramatically after a poor season and shifting on a few of the Hall of Famers
