Yeah. Good one lurch
Di Matteo was an interim manager who won the Champions League and the FA Cup coming in at short notice. He got a classic new or interim manager bounce. The players played for him because he wasnât Andre Villas Boas and because he was a Chelsea man. Chelsea had to appoint him because heâd won two trophies but they didnât want to appoint him. And despite Chelsea starting the following season well, they sacked at the first hint of anything going wrong because theyâd always wanted to sack him.
Slot is in the Villas Boas position. All that remains to be decided is the exit date.
If Liverpool sacked him today and got a crack interim squad of STAUNCH LIVERPOOL MEN, youâd never know what could happen.
But that wonât happen.
Liverpool will probably give it a half decent go for half an hour against PSG and then concede and then concede again and lose 3-0 before losing 0-2 in the second leg.
Still though, itâs tempting to imagine these interim options:
Option 1: THE FULL STAUNCH
Steven Gerrard with Jamie Carragher, Robbhie Fowler, Danny Murphy and Jay Spearing
Option 2: LEGENDS TICKET
John Barnes with Ian Rush, Steve McMahon, Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton
Option 3: CALMING, CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST STAUNCH
Sami Hyypia with Didi Hamann, John Arne Riise and Luis Garcia
Option 4: IâM THE GAFFER
Stephen Staunton, Kevin McDonald and Mick Byrne
I want Option 3.
Heâs injured for the tie this year. Out until the end of April apparently.
Boston Red Sox 2-8 after 10 games, the worst record of all 30 teams in the MLB. A world of discontent in Boston with owner John W. Henry. A sentiment that I heard expressed any number of times by the natives was to the effect that he was spending his money footixing on Liverpool rather than on the Red Sox.
Would half a billion over a summer get you much in baseball?
It would get you a lot. The Red Sox fans I was talking to couldnât believe it when I told them it was half a billion spent by the Dippers on a load of rubbish.
Did they understand the meaning of the phrase âTell Us Neverâ?
Thought it safest not to be a âTell us Neverâ messenger. Red Sox Nation is angry, very angry at the moment and a good chunk of that anger is directed towards Liverpool Football Club.
The World baseball championship does not travel beyond its âWorldâ boundaries and even there is declining in popularity with every passing year.
Having been to a Red Sox game I can understand the slow demise. Id sooner watch grass grow
I think thereâs a dedicated MLB thread for this kind of high brow conversation .
This thread is for catchy slogans only
THIS MEANS MORE
Liverpool FC dwarf Boston Red Sox in every possible way so itâs no wonder John Henry is more interested in Anfield these days. Fellas in Termonfeckin or Timbuktu wouldnât be able to name one Red Sox baseballer but theyâd list the entire 2005 Champions League winning line-up.
Lads trying to talk money ball should also know lfc spent nothing in 2024 so the 2025 is á 2 and split over two seasons.
Tell them never
Rightly or wrongly, Liverpool FC are now getting the blame for destroying the Boston Red Sox. I suppose theyâve got blamed for a lot worse in the past.
Are you still in Boston posting away at 4 and 5am?
Noone cares apart from a small few in Boston. When I was in Fenway park the stadium was only about 25% full, so the locals didnt seemed too bothered with the snoozefest
Got home this morning.
The Coutinho money, still.
Good to hear. Iâm sure itâs a relief to be away from those pesky Red Sox fans and back amongst the chirpy scousers in Ireland.
