Log thread for stories which show FF's cronyism, arrogance, greed and incompetence

Unbelievable that he’s still in office. I heard of a couple of lads who similarly fucked up using bogus receipts from a hotel that had closed down, their payroll office then rang the hotel to get their VAT number and discovered the scam when they couldn’t contact the bust hotel. Both sacked immediately.

Surely misappropriating public moneys by deception is still a crime in this country? Otherwise what did FF’s Stroke Fahy go to jail for? This fcuker Callely should be in chains.

The Sindo gave him some column inches recently to put forward his version of events. Cringeworthy wouldnt even come close.

Pat Carey, on the day of the general election, just before fiannna fail lost office and he lost his seat, signed papers giving the go ahead to disputed plans for the corrib gas pipeline. Unbelievable stuff. What a pack of red rotten corrupt bastards they were.

Not in the least bit surprising but no less objectionable for that. I really think this is an opportunity for FG and Labour to do something about the way politics is run in this country. FG and FF in particular have had a cosy alliance in local government and in deciding how the Dáil is run for a long, long time. FG may have complained about Dáil days and Christmas breaks and everything when they were in opposition but have never shown an appetite to change anything when they’re in power. This is just legistlation, it can be overturned no matter how “unconventional” that might be. It’s time to start challenging decisions that have been taken, not just accept what has happened and blame the previous incumbents.

I found it pretty astonishing to be honest. That’s the kind of venal, perverse shit you only expect from the absolute dregs of humanity. For a case with so much public interest and so controversial, to sign it off quickly in the dying hours like that shows incredible contempt for any notions of democracy or even decency. There was no political gain to be made, there was no urgency or pressure, so there’s only one other reason. I wonder how much he got to do it.

An independent review of the performance of the Department of Finance over the past decade has found that the Department did warn the Government about the dangers of the economic policy it was following, but that its advice was overruled by the Cabinet.

The report also says the budget-making process was overwhelmed by programmes for government and social partnership.

This review by independent experts from Canada and Holland looked at the advice the Department provided to Cabinet over the past decade.

Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan welcomed publication of the report, saying: ‘It provides a very fair and thoughtful assessment of the Department’s performance over the past ten years.’

The report found the Department of Finance was aware of the dangers of the Government’s procyclical economic policy of increasing spending and cutting taxes - and of the overheating of the property and construction sectors, and of the vulnerability of the tax system to a downturn.

The report says the Department did provide clear warnings on the risks of the Government’s policy, and that its advice was more direct and comprehensive than concerns expressed by others in Ireland or abroad.

But it found that in every year except 2003 the Cabinet increased spending above the levels advised by the Department.

It says there was an extraordinary public expectation for more spending, and that the budget process was completely overwhelmed by social partnership and Government programmes committing to cut taxes and increase spending.

It says that instead of being an appropriate framework for prioritising spending claims, the Budget simply paid the bills for these dominant processes.

The report faults the Department for not increasing the volume and stridency of its warnings as time went on.

It calls for big changes to the way budget information is prepared, published and independently assessed.

Not that it would have made a huge difference but convent that this was released the week after rather than the week before the election. I wonder how this stacks up with all of those comments about acting in accordance with the best advice available to us at the time.

Does the report mention how the Dept of Finance threatened the ERSI whenever they suggested the economy could be in trouble? An ‘independent’ report into a government department

Handy this report comes out just before the Dept of Finance gets a new boss

the cunts snouts go to the trough one final time. no surprises that limericks first citizen is at the front with breathtaking arrogance

Willie makes donations to charity. Whoop di doo…

A self-serving twat.

I couldnt be arsed finding a more appropriate thread. A truly blood curdling list of cunts you’d almost forgotten about and how much they’ve been pulling in this past number of years. The obivous ones like Ahern and Cowan are there, but its the absolute gangsters further down that you’d forget about are the ones that will really piss you off.

I got as far as Michael Woods and I’m fit to explode already.

When you don’t have a back bone as a people this is what you get.

Fucking hell

Christ.

Why is Berties pension considerably smaller than Dermot Ahern?
Did Dermot Ahern serve in more governments?

I see Charlie McCreevy is refusing to answer questions at the banking inquiry and they’ve had to adjourn, first time this has ever happened. Apparently he’s refused to acknowledge that there was a property bubble in 2004. Would love to see some of these bastards locked up.

Should our current president still be getting his 40 odd grand a year in ministerial pension?
