Rumours that Dundalk are all but gone.

I think regardless of your allegiances, seeing one of the historically top clubs fall to pieces isn’t good for the league. Such a badly run club. And with so much support around the town. Everything from kids to an old woman down the road (who goes around with a Dundalk bench coat and scarf) wear the club colours but the (lack of) investment into the club and facilities is absolutely shocking.

Its a pity that they went to shit after the european runs

Cant really blame the fans either as it was shit owners after shit owners to blame

The latest guy was obviously trouble qhen he ditched kerry

FAI should give them their share of the european compensation payments now to allow them continue or maybe do what rovers did with the 400 club and receivership

I was told by a good source that clubs have already been informed of the permutations for Dundalk going under by Wednesday. Not looking good at all.

I think anyone with even a small knowledge of Irish football will snigger at a cork city fan pointing fingers here.

Several soccer clubs from Cork have competed in the League of Ireland but later went out of business. Here is a list of notable clubs:

  1. Cork F.C. (1938–1940)

One of the earliest Cork-based clubs in the League of Ireland, but they only lasted two seasons before folding.

  1. Cork United F.C. (1940–1948)

This club enjoyed significant success during its brief existence, winning several League titles and FAI Cups. However, financial issues led to its dissolution in 1948.

  1. Cork Athletic F.C. (1948–1957)

Formed after Cork United’s demise, Cork Athletic also found success, winning two League titles. Financial problems, however, forced them to fold in 1957.

  1. Cork Hibernians F.C. (1957–1976)

After Cork Athletic’s collapse, Cork Hibernians filled the gap, winning a League title in 1971. They folded in 1976 due to financial difficulties.

  1. Albert Rovers F.C. / Cork Alberts / Cork United (1976–1982)

This club went through a series of name changes, from Albert Rovers to Cork Alberts, and finally Cork United (a different incarnation from the original). They dissolved in 1982.

  1. Cork Celtic F.C. (1959–1979)

Cork Celtic enjoyed a notable run in the League of Ireland, winning the League title in 1974, but folded in 1979, also due to financial challenges.

  1. Cork City F.C. (original) (1984–2020, re-established)

Though not entirely defunct, Cork City F.C. was dissolved and reconstituted several times due to financial troubles. The most notable instance was in 2010 when the club was liquidated and reformed under the same name by a supporters’ trust.

These clubs represent the ups and downs of soccer in Cork, with financial instability being a recurring theme in their histories.
