Touch of the Diego Maradona intensity there too…
One of the first things I recall seeing in Shoot magazine was the “Just Jim” section (renamed “Greavsie” from summer 1988 on) where readers would write in on paper to resident expert Jimmy Greaves. Featured in this section each week was a lookalike a reader had pointed out. The first and only lookalike I can recall a reader coming up with was shortly after Fatima Whitbread had won the gold medal in the women’s javelin at the 1987 World Athletics Championships in Rome.
The lookalike was Whitbread and “a tearful Diego Maradona”.
This did happen.
