Losing My Religion

I’m surprised they aren’t here already. They must be at saturation in the UK they seem to be on every corner

I was recently in Manchester and walked from Piccadilly to the Football museum and they were everywhere .

The Greggs vegan sausage roll is a game changer.

I would. You’d make a fortune if you could afford it. The insurance is a lot of sausage rolls.

Sausage rolls and steak bakes will never replace the chicken fillet or breakfast roll in Ireland

I just did a Wikipedia on Gregg’s

Some tremendous Protestant football names (almost) associated with the business

They were founded by John Gregg

Current chairman is Ian Durant

CEO is Roger Whiteside

I assume there’s a Will Struth or a Walter Smyth or a Richard Goff there too

I very much hope Celtic can get the ten in a row but if any team was to stop them, I’d love it to be Stevie and his Gers

They do the finesht of breakfast rolls plus any coffee for three quid.

If they could make their bacon and cheese wrap more jambon-shaped it would do a lot to assuage the Irish market’s concerns.

You can’t spell assuage without sausage

Losing the Irish language is a terrible thing. It a a further removal of out Irish identity. The brits tried to remove all aspects of out culture. Music, games, traditions and language. They knew if those go then people lose their identity.

Culturally, even regional accents are going now, most young folk sound like yanks, act like yanks.

They almost seem foreign

Also, the Brits used addiction to control their subjects, particularly alcohol. Another thing we have to thank them for.

CNS - community national schools seem like a decent endevour a well BTW…

I guess that “identity” has been gone for hundreds of years then

It’s not gone, we’ve still got our language, music and games. Attitudes and cultural influences will probably kill it off alright

But we don’t have “our” language and haven’t had in any of our lifetimes

So this “our” identity is in fact not our identity at all

We are an English speaking country who pay lip service to the Irish language and in reality the vast majority of people have very little or no interest in it, we extend tokenism towards it

The fact is, it was the people of Ireland who let the language go by choice and that was centuries ago, you can’t blame the people now for that

The Irish were able to hold on to their religion, something which should have been much easier to “get rid of”, yet not their language

Let it go by choice?

You absolute fucking cunt

By choice? There’s plenty of evidence to show Irish was beat out of the poor / small farmers… It was OConnell and the church , backed by the emerging middle classes, that were largely behind it… Now there’s an argument to be made that their assimilation to little Englander’s was due to centuries of colonialism… But the famine was the straw that broke their Gaelic back.
