The myths around Irish nationalism are exactly the same as the myths around British nationalism where they can’t accept the misery caused by their empire or Polish nationalism where they can’t accept that Poles actively participated in the Holocaust or in Russia where they can’t accept they collaborated with the Nazis to carve up Poland or in America where they can’t accept they have a history of butchery around the world

This week has shown that there is a cancer of dishonesty at the heart of Irish nationalist ideas - nationalists cannot talk honestly about the past, preferring to wallow in imagined total innocence and victimhood

The Irish did go along with the dying out of their own language, it could not have died out without the willingness of the Irish to let it die

So how could we have “our” language, then

“Our” language is English - I’m not aware of a single thread on this forum conducted through the medium of Irish

“Death to America” is an entirely legitimate thing to post when America commits an act of war on another country on the other side of the world, who has done pretty much nothing on it

War is death

And America has been effectively at war with Iran for 70 years merely because it felt like it

They overthrew their democratically elected government, they installed a vile client despot in his place, they got Iraq to declare war on them, they shot down an Iranian civilian plane in Iranian airspace, from Iranian waters, they have continually imposed sanctions on them, they have destabilised and brought war to the region by invading Iraq, they have continually propped up a vile regime in Saudi Arabia to threaten war on them, Trump cancelled the nuclear deal for no reason other than Obama’s name was on it and committed an act of war on Iran just last week

So I think you can understand Iran’s hostility to the USA, the reverse, well, not so much

Most things are not completely black and white but in terms of who has been the bad guy in terms of US-Iran relations over the last 70 years, it’s as close to black and white as makes no difference

And I’m no fan of the Iranian regime at all, far from it, but Iran has never been the bad guy in terms of their relations vis a vis the US
