Until the Catholic Church changes and essentially becomes the same as Protestantism it will continue to wither and die.

It was only resting in her knickers…
This is from a couple of weeks back. Fr Iggy actually performed the wedding ceremony for my brother and his missus in Rome. Got chatting to him after it - a funny, funny man. And an alright sort.
Fr Iggy O’Donovan attacks ‘extreme elements’ in Church

An outspoken priest has hit out at intolerant and extreme right-wingers in the Church and questioned why priests like Fr Tony Flannery were being “persecuted with a zeal that is as pathological as the paranoia that feeds it”.

Fr Iggy O’Donovan was paying tribute to Fr Flannery, a Redemptorist priest who was silenced by the Catholic hierarchy in Rome last year after airing his views over women priests, contraception, and clerical celibacy, at his own final Mass before he begins a “sabbatical”.
Close to 1,500 people, including members of the Muslim and Baha’i faiths, attended the service at the Augustinian Church in Drogheda yesterday where they also heard town mayor Richie Culhane claim that “ultra-conservative” elements had forced the Augustinians to “push” Fr Iggy out of Drogheda.
While Fr Iggy has denied reports he had been silenced by the Church, many see the decision to move him from Drogheda to Limerick, where he will be on sabbatical, as a response to complaints about his liturgy.
Fr Iggy yesterday said he could not leave the town without making reference to Fr Flannery, whom he described as “a distinguished colleague of mine in the priesthood”.
“If I had not been made aware first hand of the details of his case, I could not have given it credence. Even hardened veterans are shaken by the murkiness of the devious world of ecclesiastical politics.”
Fr Iggy asked: “How has it come to this, that a great and good priest like Tony, who has dedicated his life to the preaching of the Gospel, is persecuted with a zeal that is as pathological as the paranoia that feeds it?
“How has it come to this, that intolerant and extreme right-wingers — encouraged, apparently, by certain authorities and career-oriented priests — can meet in solemn conclave to determine who is guilty of what these people label heresy?
“How has it come to this, that sincere, thinking Catholics are walking away from our Church believing that the battle for sane Catholicism is lost?”
Fr Iggy told the congregation: “I still believe and am strongly of the conviction that Catholicism is compatible with modern culture.”
He added that he “deeply” welcomes the arrival of Pope Francis.
At the end of the Mass, Mr Culhane addressed the congregation told Fr Iggy: “I hope and pray to God that you are never silenced.”
Firm views
Fr Iggy O’Donovan is no stranger to causing controversy within the Catholic Church.
In 2006, he was heavily criticised by senior figures after he issued an invitation to Church of Ireland minister Michael Graham to join him and other Catholic priests in an Easter Mass at his order’s priory in Drogheda, Co Louth.
In 2008, Fr O’Donovan rounded on the Vatican for its condemnation of the Harry Potter books.
In 2010, he described as “a millstone around our necks” the fact that women were not ordained to the priesthood.
Some more on the reason given as to why Fr Iggy was ousted.
A HIGH-profile priest has lashed out at Cardinal Sean Brady for listening to “malicious complaints intended to discredit” Fr Iggy O’Donovan.
Fr Tony Flannery, a spokesman for the Association of Catholic Priests in Ireland, accused the Catholic primate of behaving “very inappropriately” over his role in reporting the Augustinian priest to the Vatican over a baptism deemed invalid on the basis of a complaint by someone who attended the ceremony.
The parents of the child were asked by a local priest in Drogheda to have their son rebaptised following the complaint to Cardinal Brady.
The complainant reported the priest for allowing the godparents and parents pour water over the child’s head. This is considered incorrect procedure in the Catholic Church.
Fr Flannery told the Irish Independent the baptism was valid. “The correct words of the sacrament were spoken and water was poured over the child making the baptism perfectly valid,” he claimed.
The 66-year-old Redemptorist, who has been threatened with excommunication by the Vatican, called on the leader of the Catholic Church in Ireland to clarify the grounds on which the original baptism was deemed invalid.
REBAPTISE
“It was Cardinal Brady’s decision to order a local priest to rebaptise the child and that was the key. Once the Vatican heard that the cardinal had decreed that the child be rebaptised, they concluded that the original baptism was invalid,” Fr Flannery said.
The Irish Independent sought a response from Cardinal Brady but none was forthcoming.
Under canon law, there is no need to have a second baptism if a person is validly baptised even if unlawfully. This allows for lay people to baptise a dying baby if there is no priest available.
The complainant is believed not to have attended the baptism as a member of the family party but was there to watch Fr Iggy with a view to reporting any irregularities.
The complainant is believed to be a well-known member of the pro-life campaign in the local area and to have taken part in campaigning outside politicians’ houses over the abortion legislation.
The complaint about the baptism was made without the knowledge of the parents of the child, who told the ‘Sunday Independent’ they fully supported Fr O’Donovan.
Fr O’Donovan is now on sabbatical and has moved from Drogheda to Limerick.
Fr Flannery called on Cardinal Brady to get involved in resolving the matter.
I also met him when he performed the wedding ceremony for friends of mine in Rome. He was great company and really helpful as he speaks Italian and knows Rome really well.
He came on the bus which transported us to the wedding luncheon and expertly took on the role of tour guide pointing out and giving brief histories of the various sites we passed .
I read a similar article about his suspension and it said the parents of the child who had been christened completely distanced themselves from the complaint.
I got the impression that someone had filmed the ceremony with the purpose of finding fault but I’m not one hundred per cent sure
This Iggy cunt can stay the fuck out of Limerick with his ‘progressive’ horse shit. Ireland is the holiest country in the World, and Limerick is the holiest city in Ireland.
+1. He’s either a priest or not. If he doesn’t agree with all that priesty stuff then he should fuck off and do something else.
Fr. Iggy really has a lust for the afterlife.
Anybody ever shag a nun ?
Iggy taught in Good counsel for a few years. fair to say he wouldnt be the typical over bearing religious bashing priest.
No… I’m trying to remember if there was a lady who became a nun.
Jesus, what in the name of god did you do to her??
I rammed her with a crucifix in homage to Harvey Keitel.
It’s a life changing experience to let Jesus inside you.
Renton calls his langer Jesus?
I remember a certain lady from Cork who often spoke of wanting to become one… the delight with which she took to the whole hows your fathers activity cast serious doubt over her lofty ambition.
