Current Juventus attacker Luca Toni has hit out at Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal. The former Italy international left Bayern for Roma in January 2010 after falling out with the Dutch coach.
“I had never experienced someone like him before. I remember how he once tried to make it clear that he wasn’t afraid to withdraw the so-called big names. He just dropped his pants to show us that he had the balls to do so. Fortunately, I didn’t sit front row so I didn’t see anything,” said Toni to Sport Bild.
"He’s a crazy coach who doesn’t know how to treat his players. Guys like him and Felix Magath are coaches from another generation and can’t deal with the way players behave these days. Modern players want to communicate with their coach, but that’s not possible with Van Gaal. Everything goes the way he wants it to go.
“He always wanted the players to remains seated until everyone had finished breakfast. However, Italians only drink coffee for breakfast so I finished early and made myself comfortable. The coach then showed up behind me and started screaming and pulled me up. He told me that he was in charge and that I should leave if I didn’t like it.”
I would have a lot of time for Van Gaal, his style won’t work with every team but when he has gotten teams that have bought into his style and ethos they normally become very good sides. his time with Ajax, AZ Alkmaar, his first spell with Barca and now with Bayern show this but when they don’t it can go horribly wrong as his time with the dutch and second spell with barca show…probably one of the few managers top managers along with Wenger who seems to be style orientated as opposed to results orientated
I’ve an awful lot of time for Van Gaal as well. He’s not infallible but he’s a good tactician and if Toni’s issues with him are as trivial as the complaints he has above then he just comes across as a spoilied footballer. He wasn’t in Italy anymore when he was playing in Munich. Imagine an Irish footballer said that it’s his culture to have a few beers after training.
Many commentators marvelling at how Arjen gets fitter and faster as the game goes on.
Nothing suspicious about that. Nothing whatsoever.
What’s surprising about it? Fitness wise he is in the form of his career, his hamstring problems have stopped this season and he is looking all the better for it.
You cast suspicion over his fitness levels, I’m saying that I’m not surprised at how fresh he has looked given this must be the longest injury-free period he had in his career.
