Rays is the business. God Bless Huey Morgan. Ireland is a fuckin shit hole. Fuckin cess pit.
Was Huey not the person behind DiFontaine’s? Also a great joint, of course.
I think Mac said the guy behind Ray’s is from God’s own country, Castletown in north Wexford…? Hence their new store in Gorey. Which is making me very very fat (off the bus, grab a couple of slices, back on the bus, same).
That show always makes me rue the fact it’s so hard to get decent ribs and wings in Ireland. Had wings in some bar in NYC and they were sensational. I got them as a starter, was given a massive pile of them, could hardly touch the burger after it.
I saw him eat 17 hot dogs last week.
I was talking about Rays in NYC. Huey Morgan is the man who brought NYC pizza to this shithole because he was fed up of eating shit.
Huey is an alright sort so. I completely concur with your assessment of our nation’s capital in terms of chowing-down options.
Ever see the start of Louie (the Louis CK show)? The slice of pizza he buys in some cheapo joint…it looks fucking awesome. It’s not fair.
You’d have to think there is a good business opportunity for some entrepreneurial yank or otherwise over here to set up a genuine American style diner or eatery like you’d see on ‘Man v Food’ serving up some seriousky tasty looking stuff. There would be nothing like these in Limerick for example and a good market for it, would go down a treat with the locals.
You would think so but aficionados such as yourself and Thraw are few and far between.
You’re an American Flano maybe you should do it or get one of your cousins to start it.
In all seriousness it is incredible that such a thing has not been tried in Ireland. Unless there is an authenic American place in Dublin run by Americans?
Is Captain Americas on Grafton Street this style of place or is it a shithole?
I doubt that , this is a business opportunity waiting to happen.
Been in one in london and its the latter.
Would Gourmet Burger or any of those massive burger places be like what ye are on about ye fine dining onion ring munching yankee loving animals?
There is or at least a restaurant in Limerick that was run by americans offering American style food. I heard people rave about it, I went there for lunch once but found it expensive and unremarkable. It was up near the market, perhaps on High Street, The Green Onion I think.
Produce isn’t cheap enough to throw out those massive portions so it’d be pricey, and then with a much smaller population and high prices I don’t think you’d get the volume of people to sustain it. The closest thing to it I’ve seen was a class place in Galway… I think it was called Rays? They had one outlet in town and one in one of the student villages, brilliant ribs, steaks, burgers, wings, homecut chips with salsa and guac and stuff all over… loved that place. Shut down after a year or two.
That was close alright. The wild onion? It wasn’t as impressive as the genuine article but they did do some nice stuff and free refills on coffee.
It was Scottys!
Not sure is the one in town still open.
Nah, too fussy in those places. Too restaurant like. You don’t hear Adam on MvF waxing lyrical about the thick-cut fries cooked in duck fat or any of that bollocks. I want a diner like Eddie Rocket’s but with nicer lighting and decor and no shit music and not some Chink cooking my burger and doing a proper range of belly-bursting grub.
FOAD!
Bit over the top there flange.
TGI Fridays is probably what you’re looking for
