Bruce has been officially appointed. The mind boggles, if you are going to go mad and go cheap then why not someone like Lee Bowyer, at least he has a greater than 50% win rate in his short time in Charlton and got them to the league one playoffs twice and promoted this year. A former Geordie as well.
Bruce has had a greater than 50% win rate only once in his career, a 18 match spell at palace. He has failed spectacularly elsewhere, and to be fair he’s been shafted in a few places, but there’s very little to suggest he has the ability for this job IMO. He’s left a trail of clubs in a worse place than he found them.
At least with someone like Bowyer you don’t definitely know he isn’t good enough (although he probably isn’t). Whereas Bruce has proved he’s not up to this level.
Naturally they should really be aiming for a decent proven manager, but probably not many takers in that pool for the Newcastle job with the way things are. Rafa was working miracles there, Ashley should have moved heaven and earth to keep him. It’s actually difficult to believe he’s a successful businessman. He seems like an absolute clown
