I know when Tiger Tim managed the villa he got rid of all the sports science team through the whole club as he didn’t believe in “that nonsense.” One of my friends was doing some bio mechanic work with the youth set up but was gone within a week of Tim arriving. He also didn’t listen to any Physio. Anyone who didn’t train because of a niggle was seen as weak and not up to it. Alienated most of the squad the week before the FA Cup final too. Absolute bluffer of a man
Leadership is crucial, guidence and support from the top is an absolute need.
Of course the players have to cross the line. But players are dumb alot of the time, they do whatever they are told because a)its their job and b)they know no better and just want to ay and impress for the most part. It takes clever people to monitor them. Majority of pro ayers haven’t a clue what they are doing, they just turn up for training. They come into the gym and most have to be babysat. But its the medical teams job to get them tight for saturday. If you don’t understand that they you have no idea whatsoever about professional sport.
Its easy to rotate players in and out, not altogether, in clubs like Man City and Liverpool, but the coaches are too ignorant or under too much pressure from above to do it. Thats often the issue. Which makes Wenger look even sillier, cos he never had that.
There are videos and articles all over the shop about the background at Leicester.
Amazing you would now be concerned about that when you and Mac ridiculed me in the past for suggesting Aidan Walsh could do with a break and not even togging-off or going to a game would be of benefit.
Its funny, cos now we are seeing the reukts of a guy flogged to death. He is useless to everyone including himself.
Tough on the fella now alright that he was a dual player, and getting pulled this way and that by all codes and managers at such a young age. Shur he didn’t stand a chance did he?
Incidentally @TreatyStones or some of the Limerick posters, whatever happened that young Limerick dual player Stephen Lucey? I believe he was studying something or other in UCD there for a while?
Lucey was a dual player in a different time, when the demands on players with regards to training wasn’t nearly as severe. He also payed the price for it in later years when he was injured more often than not.
He is a good man to get players motivated and playing for him but ultimately falls down tactically and when buying players. Similar to when he was at Spurs
These managers that really purely on “motivation” or “spirit” all get found out, and usually fairly quickly. If your lucky, you’ll get a short term gain but rarely will it work over a prolonged period.
Found it surprising all the “spirit” talk that was going on in the Cross dressing room on the recent documentary. No mention of tactics to any great degree. if I was a cynic I’d wonder were they deliberately trying to mislead.
