They are an average team but a huge club. They need a new defence, a holding midfielder and a top striker, along with some patience with a manager. They may not* be long gone if they can get that right.

It seems he is keen to move on, though. Shortened his contract from 2020 to 2018 and has only said “don’t read too much into it” when quizzed. Seemed he was pretty keen on the English game a few years back but it changed when he saw what was coming through at Atleti (or so they say anyway).
I’d be surprised if he stayed beyond 2 more years (Inter seems to be the likely destination) but I highly doubt he leaves next summer. Atleti are in a transfer ban and I can’t see him leaving them in a pinch, and obviously the chance for him to win a trophy too.
As great as he’s been there’s a bit of a ‘nearly man’ reputation around Atleti now. Same thing is leveled at Griezmann. Would be a shame for them both to leave Atleti with another trophy.
