Manchester United 18/19 - Producing McTominays on a yearly basis

Bar the two you’ve mentioned, Man U are a sacking club. He must fear the worst. They’d be mad to get rid of a proven winner like Jose though just three games into the season.

It’s little known but fergie was near getting the sack in early 1990 . They stuck with a proven winner and the rest is history . they would be wise to heed that history .

Red Nev giving it big licks saying that United shouldn’t sack him during the season, that it’s not the “United way”. I’d say the rest of the league hope he stays there

Neville seems like a fairly smart guy but he’s quite dishonest in how he analyses Manchester United, England and English players compared to opponents. A shit player is a shit player if he doesn’t tick one of those boxes but he’ll give a more nuanced take on it if it’s a shit Manchester United player.

Did united have many academy players on the field last night?

cc @Gman

Dont know pal, didnt watch it. Did Pogba play?

Dunno mate.

That must be one of the most often trotted-out “little known” stories in soccer.

@Mullach_Ide I think was keeping count of how many games in a row the academy players have played in. Nice little twee stat. But Lingard is a proper academy player so as long as he gets on the field he’ll keep it going for a good while.

No idea and no interest. @Mullach_Ide is the go to man on all matters relating to the famed Man U youth academy.

he togged out and was selected.

Two I think. Pogba and Lingard. And two on the bench in Rashford and McTominay.

Of the last 8 managers before Mourinho, only Sir Alex managed to not get the sack. Van Gaal, Moysie, Big Ron, Dave Sexton, Tommy Docherty, Frank O’Farrell and Wilf McGuinness all got the bullet. The Man U support were agitating non-stop for nearly four years to get Sir Alex the sack before he broke his trophy duck in his fourth season in winning the 1990 FA Cup. Sacking 7 of the last 8 managers would indicate that sacking managers is very much “the United Way”.

Sure many of their supporters believe football only started when the EPL started

Yeah, its grand to trot out the line its not ‘the United way’ to sack managers when you’re winning 13 league titles in 20 years and any amount of cup competitions on top of that. Once Sir Alex departed and winter set in, they sacked Moysie after barely 6 months and sacked Van Gaal at the end of his second season, even after winning the FA Cup the weekend before.

Real Madrid is a bigger job and that’s the one that really broke Jose

it is not.

Well it’s nice that they still have that

Man United have more fans and a higher financial turnover .

Real Madrid have 13 or 14 European Cups and a much more demanding fanbase and board
