Souness signed shit players and let good ones go. That was it really. Signing Neil Ruddock and Julian Dicks wasn’t really consistent with a move towards pasta and professionalism.

Late career Ferguson was very good in Europe, but they just ran into a generational Barca team. They even should’ve had Madrid out of there in 13’ but for a Nani sending off when they were basically shit.
They basically knew to sit in and counter good sides as they had a brilliant defense, power in transition and clinical forwards, a bit like Newcastle at Arsenal last night. The only really mess up he had was trying to take on Barca head on in the second final due to ego, Rooney said that, that they should’ve sat back.
Rooney was never the same player after he played injured v Bayern Munich around 2010

He more or less bought his first title with a host of signings but then ran into one of those rare academy teams that had 5/6 starting calibre players on it that backboned a decade of near dominance.
An unbelievable man manager I’d say. But tactically short… a lot like Klopp really.

Ferguson is the greatest football manager of all time. Simple
I’d have them in a similar place in the pantheon. Klopp was a tactical revolutionary bringing back pressing with an intensity never seen before, but he probably didn’t refine it enough. His success at Dortmund, Ferguson at Aberdeen, very similar really.
If Klopp had access to Suarez, holy fuck. Massive what if. He potentially stays if Klopp is in.
