RIP Denis law
Football in the 60s is far more relatable to the football I grew up watching compared to the 70s or 80s where it was just hoof ball played on a mud patch.
Three Ballon Dor winners.
Incredible.
I always enjoyed Barney Curleys yarn about working in Manchester aged 15 with his dad. Working two shifts a day but they’d take every second Saturday afternoon off to watch Manchester United play.
Law didn’t play in that final. I absolutely loved him in my history of man united vhs I got as a junior footix.
Bergkamp was named after him I think.
‘He was fearless and he could score goals’
‘Their relegation was confirmed in a curious crestfallen and chaotic manner.’
And denis has done it! No elation there at all from denis law…
United are a bit of a laughing stock now but they have some history and romance behind them as a club.
Three ballon d’or winners in five years
The biggest draw in football…
RIP. A proper legend of the game.
Never saw him play and know no one that saw him but they don’t hand out Ballon D’Ors for nothing
He was a skinny fucker with a wonky eye from childhood. His greatest attribute was that he was utterly fearless in an era of uncompromising defenders.
On top of that he had the strikers ultimate weapon - presence. He was inevitably right there when it rebounded off the post or the defenders shins and with either foot or head he did the needful.
Didn’t Michael Owen get one?
Michael Owen was very good
