Manchester United FC 2013/14

Moyes is a play-it-safe merchant at heart and will always revert to type for crucial games. He continually selected a completely ineffective Phil Neville for Everton over the likes of Ross Barkley, and there was a danger that had Moyes remained at Goodison, Barkleys chances of becoming a top class footballer would have been lost.

He selected Neville at the heart of our midfield last season for the FA cup tie v Wigan. He was duly overrun by the much younger James McCarthy and Callum Macmanaman as Everton were humiliated 3-0 in front of their own fans. Sure enough, he went and picked the 40 year old Ryan Giggs against the same James McCarthy, and a 20 years younger, Ross Barkley on Wednesday night. That’s the problem with Moyes, he’ll never learn from his mistakes. By the time he left Everton, he had managed 44 premier league matches away to United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool… Number of victories - ZERO.

Really? How come no-one’s ever mentioned this???

To be honest I thought this was well known. It certainly is among Everton fans. I’m not certain that’s exactly the amount of games but it’s certainly in that ball park.

Sarcasm, Jimmy. I know it’s not as obvious in the written word but that’s all we’ve heard about Moyes since he was appointed.

Well unfortunately for Moyes it’s something that will continue to be thrown in his face until he learns to overcome being paralysed by the fear of playing away to his major rivals. It’s a fear that translates to the players on the pitch and we have already seen plenty evidence of it during his first few months as United manager.

I know Jimmy, and sadly, I agree fully. it doesn’t help that he seems completely rattled. Or that he fucked out United’s coaching staff. Or that he is undermining himself and his only buy by not playing him. Still, he needs to be given some time.

Van Persie starts.

Van Persie looked visibly irked with his team mates before the game. I predict a sending off

Debuchy is a pathetic defender.

He has actually been very good this season after a poor start to his Newcastle career last season

Fucking hell.

Some of the players need to have a look at themselves, they’ve an easy scape-goat in Moyes and are taking full use of it. Awful, awful display bar a ten minute spell after half time. Once Newcastle scored there was no response, no urgency, no creativity and no drive to drag United back into it. Newcastle were not even that great, solid defensively and nicked one on the break.

Feel sorry for Moyes, he has made some fuck ups and no bigger one than signing a £27m Andy-Carroll-in-a-wig but he has a group of players who lack genuine quality in certain key areas and who don’t look particularly arsed bar a couple of players. Some of the dross needs to be dumped in the reserves and fucked off out the door sharpish.

:(:(:frowning:

Things are grim, they are very grim. A fairly sizeable rebuilding process is needed, and they will have to decide if Moyes is their man for that. It would be fine to say that this season is a write off now, but failure to finish in the top four would have the potential to impact on the club for a number of years. Moyes will have to get until the summer at least. Of course if we are not in the Champions League, it would make it even harder to attract a top calibre manager. Moyes just doesn’t look capable of managing a club to regularly win trophies to me though. The last 20 minutes was putrid today, put blue shirts on them and they really would have looked like Everton at any stage in the past decade.

It was always a huge risk with the two key decision makers at the club leaving at the same time, especially with some glaring deficiencies in the squad. It’s turning out as bad as feared, starting with the shambles in the summer transfer window.

You can hardly blame Moyes for the summer transfer window fiasco. Moyes biggest mistake for me was getting rid of all the back room staff when he came in. He should have kept them on got use to way things were done and the start phasing in his own staff and ideas. Still though ferguson left him a squad full of shit.

Moyes completely out of his depth at a big club. He should stick to journeymen. Maybe he is just bringing United down to his own level. If they don’t make top 4, no one will join in the summer. They are fucked. Rejoice!

Moyes has to go. He has been found out. He didn’t clear out the surplus in the summer and now has too many mediocre players to pick from instead of bringing in his transfer targets early and then overpaying for a flop . He doesn’t know his best 11. Also Woodward really should have got the business done early and in private. The Fabregas saga made them look very small time. Not making Europe at all is a real possibility. Any business done in January will cost them more as Clubs will try to hold United to ransom because they are in dire need of their player.

European form has been imperious. Maybe it could be an Aston Villa 1981/82 type season, champions of Europe but 13th in the domestic league.

Eh, he managed Everton for 11 years.
