Seemingly in their 24 league games so far this season, Man U haven’t scored a goal in the last 10 minutes of a game that’s resulted in them picking up a single point. Their latest game changing goals were in the home game against Stoke when Rooney and Hernandez scored in the 77 & 79th minute to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win.
Made a little gif of a passage of play I thought summed up the poverty of creativity in United yesterday.
Just before the image starts, Young was breaking into space but he opted to knock it wide to Evra who checked back inside. The ball is worked back to Carrick twice, who is now playing centre back, and he seems utterly paralysed with the idea of playing anything positive, creative or imaginative so he timidly walks forward before settling on a not-even-straightforward pass back and lateral to Smalling who doesn’t seem best pleased so he knocks a 5 yard pass about 2 yards behind Rafael who tries a dink into midfield that is easily picked up by Stoke.
When Carrick gets the ball there Crouch is blocking the pass to Smalling, daring Carrick to do something with it. And as the space opens up Carrick just goes back to try and find a pass to Smalling anyway. Hopeless stuff.
The worst thing is that there is no real style of football. Liverpool, Everton, city, Arsenal etc all have their way of playing and stick to it. United just seem to want to get the wingers/full backs to the byline, pull it across and hope for the best. No structure to the play and the football (as opposed to the results) has been fairly dire to watch.
In fairness it has been like that at United since Ronaldo left. The genius of Van Persie covered over the cracks last season.
Still willing to back Moyes, in his defence very little has gone his way this season between injuries, having a settled back 4 etc. Hopefully some of the deadwood will be removed unceremoniously in the summer. Welbeck, Cleverley and co are not good enough and have stole a living in recent years at the club.

kick and rush
the recent #askcarrick twitter event didnt go to plan
Man Utd: De Gea, Da Silva, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Young, Rooney, Mata, van Persie. Subs: Ferdinand, Giggs, Lindegaard, Hernandez, Valencia, Kagawa, Januzaj.
I think I’m correct in saying that Januzaj hasn’t started a game since Mata arrived, which seems odd given he’s been our player of the season so far. Didn’t even come off the bench last week when we were losing, though admittedly he had only one sub to play with after the first half injuries to the centre backs. Anyway, surely home to Fulham is a banker even for United this season.
…
I dont know moyes can turn this around
We are devoid of ideas here. All the ball in the world and we are doing fuck all with it-bring on Januzaj.
Cross after cross after cross.
What’s your fucking problem?
Januzaj on-he will score or set up the equalizer.
You, you stupid little prick.
54 crosses-wtf?!?!?
Say that to my face you cunt.
It’s like a bad day in galilee.
I know it’s been said many times but Ashley Young is a fucking fraud.
Valencia on for him - out of the frying pan and into the fire.
This is awful, no real urgency.
