I see it’s become fashionable to say Carrick is brilliant/vastly underrated.

He’s shit, mate and has been badly exposed in every game he has played against elite European opposition. Great man to have on your team at home to Norwich or the likes though.
He is certainly not shit in my view. Some of his European performances haven’t been all that, but Man Utd reached 2 European Cup finals with him in central midfield.
For me Valencia was easily the best of those three (Valencia, Young, Nani) but he seems to have gone completely off the boil. How the three of them are still there is mindboggling given as well the fact that Young and Nani are vastly overrated.
That was despite having him there, certainly not because of it. How did he play in those 2 finals? He was destroyed as he always is when playing against the better clubs in Europe. He is not shit on an EPL level but he is at European level. He has not been able to get onto the England team for the last few years despite playing for United which seemingly guarantees you a spot on the English team, which itself is pretty shit when it comes to the business end of any competition.

That’s very last season Bandage. It was his best season in years to be fair. He’s an excellent player for us in the league, particularly at home because with a bit of time on the ball he can pick a pass well. The step up in level tends to kill him alright.
On Rooney and Kagawa, I’d say the best way to play them both would be behind RVP with instructions for one or both to drift wide when appropriate. You’d need more central midfielders in the squad to play that on a regular basis, and it would mean no place for any of the dozen or so wingers we seem to have on the books. More realistically, one of them would have to play out wide in something more akin to a 4-4-2, but that’s not utilising them very well. So in short, I sadly expect Kagawa to leave in one of the next two windows.
