Manchester United FC 2013/14

 Take solace in the fact that it shows the new world order in its stark reality.

Well if I’m honest, when I woke up I lashed it in again but then I moved quickly along with my life.

Was she an abbo?
Indeed, if you split Man U league form into home and away they have the best away record in the PL this season.

Home - P 14 W6 D3 L5 Pts 21
Away - P16 W9 D3 L4 Pts 30

Their inability to beat the likes of Newcastle, WBA, Fulham, Southampton, Everton and Spurs (previously looked upon as handy fixtures) at OT this season has been their downfall.
Of the 16 away games, they’ve played all 10 sides in the bottom half of the table, winning 9 and drawing 1 at Cardiff. They’ve played 6 away games against sides in the top half, 0 wins, drew 2 at Spurs and Arsenal and lost 4 at Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Stoke.

Flat track bullies.

Its the inability to get a result against any half competent side that doesn’t roll over and throw in the towel before a ball has even been picked that’s been the downfall.

I feel like you are trying to tell us something, mate, but I can’t work it out… @Fitzy , can you flesh it out, pal?

Is it not just that they’re better than the teams below them in the table but worse than the teams above them?
That’s generally how sports leagues work…

Arsenal have the best record against sides in the bottom half so far 43 points from 48. Man U are next 41 from 48. Chelsea & Liverpool have dropped 9 points and Man City have dropped 11.

There’s a ceiling to how high Arsenal can go when they’ve shipped 17 goals on their 3 visits to fellow Top 4 sides. Man U are overachieving in many ways being 7th considering they have such an abject record against sides in the top half.

More than happy to assist you here mate - Man United are shite.

United are fucked on so many levels at the minute. They’ve an ageing defence with no obvious replacements within the club. Buttner is a clueless left back, smalling hasn’t developed at all and Evans despite being solid the last year or so is still liable to brainfart. Jones to be fair is turning into a good centre half but he too likes to thunder into tackles and ends up injured as a result.
Midfield is shocking and has been for years. Fellaini is not the answer, Carrick is past it and Cleverly doesn’t cut it. Only hope is fletcher can regain his form pre injury. Doubtful. Ashley Young, Nani and Valencia-enough said.

Mata,Kagawa and Januzaj all similar and Moyes can’t seem to get the best out of them. Rooney at least has been showing some heart.

Unfortunately Moyes was the wrong choice and he has been shown up time and time again this season. He hasn’t been helped by his players who have shown no fight - similar to Chelsea players with AVB. If they were to get rid of him in the summer, who’d replace him? Pep- in the middle of his Bayern “project”, Jose- not a chance after his apparent snub last summer, Klopp- why leave Dortmund? Anyone else worth mentioning is with a club also.

This mess above has been caused by one thing and one thing only. Alex Ferguson being allowed to pick his successor and only having a short list of one. It would not have happened anywhere else and if it were to happen in the business world, there would mass inquiries into it. Fergie was protecting his own legacy making the Moyes appointment. He knew full well that UTD were on the slide and that Moyes was not the man to turn it round. I suppose it shows how good Ferguson was that he got the best out of the squad last year.

Tough few years ahead for United. It’ll be interesting to see if the Glazers hang about I United go a few years without trophies or Champions League.

I don’t think it is as bad a people make out. They certainly need to get rid of Moyes and get a far better/more proven manager in. Moyes is hopelessly out of his depth. But I think if they got the likes of a Louis Van Gaal/Spaletti/Bielsa along with a dominant centre half and a quality central midfielder in they would be a far better side. The problem is the players realise Moyes is a waste of space and Moyes is unable to get them to play any kind of decent high tempo football

With De Gea, Mata, Januzaj, Rooney, Kagawa, RVP and a lesser extent* Rafael, Carrick, Evra & Jones there is the nucleus of a good side there along with lads like Evans, Smalling, Valencia, Welbeck etc who are decent squad players to have available.

 • I don’t particularly rate any of the four lads listed here but they all have their uses and are solid players on their day and would be more than capable of functioning at a high level in a side that is organised and playing with a bit of confidence

I broadly agree with this. It’s pretty much what Kenny Cunningham was saying on RTE last midweek when he was jousting with Dunphy. I don’t think you can underestimate how critical the role of the manager is. They do need 2 or 3 signings though and Spalletti would be the perfect fit for a fast, high octane, attacking style.

The discrepancy in results between games against sides in top half and bottom half is becoming very damaging to Moyes. The old bully boy tactics are still working against the cannon fodder who are still largely beaten before they take the field. If those sides were to have a cut at them they way the likes of Newcastle, Southampton, Stoke & Everton have, Man U would be in a very sorry place as against the 7th place they currently inhabit.

8 pts from 45 in 15 games against sides in top half is just shocking and what it suggests is Man U under Moyes are pretty much incapable of defeating any half competent side who go out and has a cut against them.

I’d agree with Louie, things not as bad as being depicted. Moyes is clearly not the man for the job and needs to be got rid of. He never had the X quality day one that was going to attract top players. A proper coaching appointment this summer to oversee a summer spending spree would change a lot.

Has @dodgy-keeper been in yet?

Klopp is the only man for the job. They should break the bank to get him.

I hear Lord Ferg got a bit of abuse at the match last night, some fans tried to rip down “The chosen one” banner and the premiership tropy was carried through the VIP section covered with a cloth.

Happy days.

Agree with most of that… De Boer could be an option also.

Does @Scrunchie not post here any more?

The story doing the rounds is that the class of 92 boys are planning a coup and Moyes will be stabbed in the back

Also, Man Utd fans on boards.ie are in melt down because the club has never finished outside the top 4 apparently :D:D:D
