There’s a whole mad back story there, he was with Sevilla as a youth, came up through the system, he’s from there.
His auld lad and family were all dyed in the wool Sevilla. Promised the fans he’d never leave the club. Offered to sign a ten year contract.
Then left for Madrid after one season in the first team. He was despised then.
This is seen as a sort of atonement attempt so he can go back to live in Sevilla when he retires, though apparently half the fan base still hate him.
