Whatâs often forgotten in all the talk about rows, outbursts, arguments and so on is what an average player Roy Keane was. Holland and Kinsella was a better midfield pairing for Ireland, while Manchester United had ended their league title famine before he joined, won the European Cup without him and went onto better things when he left too. I recall the great Ronaldo driving them on as they claimed another European Cup in Moscow that time against Chelsea. Darren Fletcher was better than Keane ever was for United in those games.

Having viewed (albeit limited highlights) of recent Irish soccer matches and also on reading todayâs papers there is part of me nodding in agreement with Mr Keanes assessment of the current panel.
He was a parody figure towards the end of his career when players refused to be intimidated by him and his cardboard hardman persona was exposed for all to see. McAteer mocking him when Keane was trying to intimidate him was very funny as was Shearer laughing at him as he did his big âhold me backâ charade.
Like all bullies, there is little bite behind his bark.
