Why do you want to swim in a lake?
Dromore Lake in Kildimo is supposed to be nice, but apparently fairly dangerous. Most places would have a local swimming spot. You could jump off the pier in Beagh Castle if you wanted?
Lough Gur

Dangerous enough though.

Can you elaborate on dangerous…
Currents.
Never swim alone in a lake bud. If you are a competent swimmer, you are right, it is far better than pool swimming.
I would not swim in Lough Gur. There’s an old woman that comes up out of the lake every seven years or so to claim a victim, dragging them to the murky depths of the lake to their death.

That’s the goddess Aine.
Correct. And there is a house at the bottom of the lake. And one of the Earls of Desmond rides across the lake at night every seven years as well. Great view off the hill there though.
Why every seven years?
When’s the last time she got one mate? Might be safe if we aren’t near the seven year mark

7 is a very important number to ancient people (and why we have a seven day week). I presume she’s operating on that basis.
