Looking forward to trying a D’IPA, maybe even a Milk Stout as well. Haven’t been into the brewery yet, I’m long overdue checking out the new & improved Nicholas St tourism offering (haven’t done the castle tour since I was a child).
Is he from the island?
Garryowen, but you know the brewery is up by the castle?
You get their beers on the taps in a lot of pubs in the City but it’s very hard to find bottles outside of Limerick. They haven’t done remotely as well as the likes of Kinnegar, Wicklow Wolf, Dungarvan etc on that side of things.
They are. As are imperial stouts.
Guinness or Beamish or fuck off
No. I haven’t been up that way in donkeys.
I’d say he’ll do alright in Limerick with that type of shtick but it isn’t even marketable nationally not to mind further.
I was speaking with a guy connected to a craft brewery before. He said they had pretty much abandoned trying to go national as it wasn’t worth the effort. Instead they put an effort into getting on tap in as many pubs as possible within an x mile radius and then just go a bit further with the bottles.
They are still in business so it might make more sense as a model.
That’s only a short term promotional thing, he has his staples
Is he looking to keep it to local distributors for now? With the name even I couldn’t see it taking off outside Limerick
For a supposedly volatile industry the brands available in SuperValu et al haven’t really changed all that much over the years, so I suppose it’s a tough nut to crack as well as all the extra expense involved in cracking it. The only thing for Treaty is that they have the brewery side of things in a reasonably touristy location (well, what should be a reasonably touristy location) and a national profile would boost that offering.
Musgraves have a deal with some brewery in Meath or Louth that produce various beers for centra/ supervalu under different labels.
He’s not selling it cheap either. You never see it in a 3 for €10 or anything and it seems to be €4 as standard on bottle. Which is ridiculous
hard to get it out west . It isn’t bad to be fair and I wish him well . Still say the Kinnegar is hard bate.
I get the impression the brands in the big supermarkets are on a Trojan horse basis for the big breweries / suppliers .
You’re saying that they have pubs in Galway and Cork?
This might have been asked but, is it nice stuff? I think I’ve only had the pale ale and wasn’t keen on it.
I’m a lager man, I think his Hells gate is lovely,
The nicest lager you’ll get anywhere though is the Larkins Helles
But the treaty stuff is very good,
Pale ale is lovely on tap, but you can get a bad pint of it too if it’s in an unused tap. I must go into the brewery pub, I’d say twould be nate
