Michael donnellan- galway utd

just found out that this below average galway utd player used to play rural football too - anyone got any stats on him - assume he was as bad at rural football as at proper football

One of the most overrated GAA footballers over the last decade for me.

makes sense

Was it him that had a 70 yard run included in the top 20 GAA moments of all time?

Wouldnt read much into that NCC. Michael was a magician on the Gaelic fields of Ireland. His character may be in some doubt, but he was one of the most talented footballers of his generation.

In comparison to Joyce and Fallon he was ordinary.

Terrific engine but in terms of actual football ability - I’m not so sure.

The man scored and created some outrageous scores. Perhaps he wasnt in the same bracket as Ja, not many were, but he was the equal of Joyce in terms of abilty and passed him on engine.

Not as likable as Joyce and Ja, thats all.

Nothing to do with being likeable.

To say that Joyce and Donnellan were on a par in terms of ability is completely wrong. Joyce was/is a footballing master. One of the sweetest kickers of the ball I have ever seen. Donnellan meanwhile used to bulltoe his free kicks and generally ability wise was ordinary.

A great engine like I said but paled in comparison to Joyce in terms of ability.

We’ll agree to differ on that farmer.

No David, let’s agree that you agree with me.

I do my own thing.

MD - great footballer, the darling of the 1998 squad along with Ja, Sean Og, Savo and Joyce. 2 Senior AI medals & 1 Senior Club AI medal to his credit.
I didn’t realise that he had stooped so low as to mingle amongst the dregs of LOI.

Donnellan was one of the best ever half forwards to ever wear the Galway jersey. Is downfall was that he wanted to play centrefield which was never his best position.

Always thought he needed manners put on him for that sort of carry on.
