Mickey Harte's Red Hand Army (2014 Ulster & All Ireland Champions)

The build up play has being very slow & predictable. Would be nice to see some variation ala some early deliveries into the forwards.

Great resolve shown there, decent result.

We definitely deserved to win that game but are grateful for a draw in the end.

Great comeback and good to have the likes of Gormley and Penrose back as both made a huge impact when they came in at a stage when we were labouring. In fairness to Sean Cavanagh he had a huge last 10 minutes.

Poor result for Cork against such opposition at home. By the sounds of it Cork were all over Tyrone in 2nd half and should have won handy but for some dreadful full back play.
Saw highlights of first half, Coney kicked good scores but it was like a point kicking drill, nobody was on him.

It was a good result for Cork given that Tyrone were the better team and deserved the win. The Cork full back also did very well to keep O’Neill and Penrose from netting goals near the end while Cork were allowed in for two very soft goals at different stages in the game.

You are an awful browl. I saw the highlights, it was Fintan Gould and the keeper who made the blocks. Cork got one wonderful goal and could have had another 2-3 by the looks of it.

You are talking utter shite as usual - seemingly based on seeing some highlights of the game. Cork had a decent 15 minute spell at the start of the second half, they scored two very soft goals which is disappointing from a Tyrone perspective. They let Kerrigan walk through them in the first half for a goal and McCrory was at fault for the second. Apart from that Tyrone were the better side, also worth noting that Cork were very cynical in the second half and it was surprising not to see a few more black cards as Penrose, Donnelly and Cavanagh were all hauled down as they were running in on goal near the end as well as the black card being given when Harte was running in on goal in the first half.

Cork dominated the possession from the kickouts but they looked pretty toothless with it and were made to work really hard for the scores. Tyrone on the other hand looked like scoring whenever they went up the pitch.

Tyrone also should have been 7-8 points up at half time. Cork look quite poor and they look likely to be the weakest of the four teams in the league semi-finals.

Tyrone were impressive enough i thought. They have some really good scoring forwards now which was a department they were lacking quality in for the past few years. The centre of the pitch is a concern for them however. I thought Colm Cavanagh wasn’t very good either but he did take a hefty knock in the first half which kept him grounded for about two minutes receiving attention. What age are the Cavanaghs? I presume Sean is the younger of the two? Sean has some amount of miles on the clock now. One other thing is they don’t seem to have a huge amount of options from the bench. Penrose and Gormley came on today but you’d expect them to be starters come championship but there were two baldy chaps that came on and both looked pretty shit.

Colm is only 28/29.

Sean is 31.

Gallagher and McBride were the two bald chaps, don’t think Gallagher will be around come Championship time. Justy McMahon was named in the initial 26 today but seemed to have been replaced by Ronan O’Neill before kick-off. He was arguably the best full back in the game about 4-5 years ago but has been plagued with injuries since, I’d have doubts about his ability to play regular inter-county football again but hopefully we can get him back on the pitch soon.

O’Neill, the two McMahons, McNabb and Clarke were the main absentees today. I think we need Aidan Cassidy back in the squad as we are lacking options around the middle of the pitch.

My revised XV for the Championship opener against Down.

Morgan

McNamee
Clarke
Quinn

McMahon
Gormley
Harte

Cavanagh
Cavanagh

McGinley
Penrose
Mark Donnelly

McCurry
Mattie Donnelly
Coney

Penrose centre forward?

Coney did enough today to nail down full-forward. I think that should be his position. I said before i prefer Mattie Donnelly out the field and stick by that, i think centre forward might be best with him. Peter Harte is a great bit of stuff.

Coney is a big lad but he’s not the most aggressive at winning his own ball. I still think we need a stronger option up there and it will benefit the likes of Coney and McCurry having someone to feed off and Donnelly is that player and although we could also do with him in the middle of the pitch as well.

Penrose has never been a prolific scorer and we could do his tigerish ability out the field where he can get on the breaks and link the play up from there. Realistically McCurry and Coney should be starters for the Championship on current form, we have plenty of options for the third position in that full forward line.

McAliskey - great young talent, natural corner forward who is accurate and a good ball winner but his form in the league this season has not lived up to my expectations.
Stephen O’Neill - one of the best forwards of the past 15 years but is getting on now and continues to struggle with injuries and not sure if he will be used as just an impact sub for the season ahead.
Penrose - great grafter, pacey, strong, carries the ball well but probably doesn’t contribute enough on the scoresheet for a position in the full forward line, think he is better suited to the half forward line
Donnelly - Gives us that physical presences up front, very accurate and someone who the ball can be let into if we want to vary it up - he can also kick points off either foot.
Ronan O’Neill - star of the minor championship a few years ago and is only now getting an injury-free run, he has been playing a lot of his football at 11 lately and it remains to be seen where his best position lies.

Harte is a fine player.
Problem with Coney is it’s grand kicking points with nobody on you in the league, but a full forwards role I also to bring other forwards into the game, that’s always been a weekness. And as soon as Cork put a man marker in him it seems he was quitened. He is undoubtably talented but I would be waiting along time before anointing him as the man to steer Tyrone to glory. With the fast scoring forwards around him Penrose may still be the better full forward.

Neither of these teams will be near winning All Ireland.

That is a perfect example of how little you know about football.
Cork got 2 brilliant goals, all I got to see really was the scores and some other highlights (which TG4 put up on you tube after half time and full time almost immediately).

Anyway, I’ll leave you at it, I’m only wasting my time.

It actually shows how little you know about football.

They weren’t brilliant goals. Kerrigan was allowed to waltz through the heart of the Tyrone defence unchallenged for the first goal while McCrory is scandalous for the second goal as he tries to win a ball he has no chance of getting and as a result sends O’Neill through on goal. If McCrory held his position that time there was no goal chance, it was a silly thing to do. Also, allowing a guy to run through unchallenged from 50 yards out is as soft as you will get at this level.

I thought our defending as a whole was much improved today but they were two terrible moments where we got duly punished for. You have been deriding and dismissing the talent in this Tyrone team and are being made look like the spoofer you are.

I’ve always suspected @Il Bomber Destro was a fan of the back door system. Glad to see his heroes are too.

It’s worth noting that McCarron is a former Tyrone player.

Is Brian Kennedy from Tyrone?

No, pal.

I’m assuming that you will be locking this thread now?

We all know how implacably opposed you are to homosexuality. You’ve been steadfast in your opposition to it on the rugby threads. And that was based on mere hearsay.

Now we have one of your brethren making a gay porn video. You must be absolutely disgusted.

Only one option open to you now pal.
