Mike Tyson

He’d break Fury’s ribs first, then smash his jaw.

Bizarre thing to find amusing.

None of todays heavyweights would last 3 rounds with Tyson.Even Bruno would beat most of todays bums.

Most overrated fighter in the history of boxing. Folded at the first sight of a challenge.

On top of being a horrendous individual Tyson was a complete bully. When Holyfield looked straight back at him he completely folded like all bullies.

Tyson was all hype, it’s a pity Holyfield didn’t get to fight him before the prison sentence. Instead he hammered him when they were both finished

He was knocking out seasoned pros at 19 — World champ at 20… his ability was never in question, it was his mind-set… He was more or less an orphan - let run wild to do as he pleased as a 8/9/10 year old. Taking Drugs and committing robberies by 11/12. He had, and still has serious psychological issues from being abandoned by both his parents — He was an immense boxer that just wasnt cut out for the fame and money that came with it all. Not many are but especially a street hod. He was used and abused all throughout his life … On Holyfield, the fight was 4/5 years too late …but he headbutted Tyson a number of times in both fights and fuck all was done about it by the refs, leading to cuts above his eye — in the second fight he admits to totally losing it and being reduced to pure rage… If you look at the fight he asked the refs three times to do something about the headbutting but nothing was done… He was done fighting after that and everything else was just about a paycheck… I think he lost his graw for fighting when Cus died but went through it initially to honour him and then after for his ego and all the hangers on facilitating this.

He was mentally done before he ever came into the ring. Can you imagine Tyson of old complaining to the ref about headbutting. No chance.

Lots of fighters came from rough origins.

Tyson folded against any top fighter he faced (except Spinks, but he wasn’t a true heavyweight). When the going got tough, he always looked for an out rather than grinding out a win. Talented no doubt but in no way a great fighter.

A scumbag to boot

Tyson’s tale is certainly a tragic one. He did some terrible things in his life, granted but I don’t think he’s ever really been in control of himself.

For every Bernard Hopkins there are about 100 Tysons, guys who could just never sort their lives out.

Youre talking smack… I’m not defending anything he ever did… You dont become a heavy weight champion at 20 if your’re not a good fighter ffs. He was snorting and drinking non stop post winning it the first time. If he had been nurtured at all he had the potential to be one of the all time greats… but he wasnt and I wouldnt regard him as one - but the potential was there and that’s the tragic thing about him as a boxer - he was a lost talent… He still won 24 straight after becoming champion the first time… but there is certainly an argument to be made that once a boxer didnt back down from the intimidation then Tyson struggled… I dont think we’ll ever truly know as the man probably should have been in a psych ward at the time.

Off on a tangent here and following up my earlier post on Hopkins - his story is one of the most remarkable you’ll see in any walk of life, served with an 18 year prison sentence, his first day as a free man in his adult life was at the age of 23.

To think the path his life was on and not only did he turn it around to become a hall of fame fighter and one of the greatest boxers of his generation, it’s the way he has lived his life with complete discipline and control, it’s remarkable.

He’s one of the most engaging and captivating speakers I’ve ever heard, for all these frauds who operate on the motivational speaking circuit, Hopkins would put them all to shame.

This promo is outstanding…

Bernard Hopkins is a racist.

A fascinating character.

He met his mentor later in life … Tyson lost his before his pro journey really began …

I’d certainly consider him an all time great.

I know the lad who makes them promos. He’s got a serious talent for it

My point is that he was overrated, as all big hitters tend to be in boxing. I’d rate him no higher than Vitali Klitschko (who had a better KO percentage incidentally).

You proceeded to tell me I’m talking smack them more or less agreed with me.

The difference is you totally dismissed him as a fighter - I said he didnt reach his potential.
