Minor teams…

Came across a few programmes of previous Munster Finals on bookface there.

Interesting to see the names on previous minor sides and the numbers that made it and the ones that slipped away.

1996 Final
Tipp v Waterford.

8 or so from Tipp panel went on to be panelist for the Seniors.

Waterford, 5?

Yes 5 of off the Waterford team. Numbers 1,2,7,8 and 11. That game was down in Limerick as I recall, Tipp scourged us. John Barrell completely snuffed out Ken. In the senior match Tipp had the game wrapped up at half time but a late Frankie Carroll inspired Limerick comeback earned Limerick a draw.

That’s right, we were about 12 down at HT.

Liam Cahill had the worst miss I’ve ever seen in a championship match and that gave Limerick great heart

Is that the ex referee in goals for Tipp in ‘96?
I remember hearing so much about Michael ‘Bonnie’ Kennedy as an underage hurler . Himself and Ken McGrath were big news from a young age

I’d say you posted the 98 Clare team twice. Unlikely they’d have the exact same team and subs 2 years in a row.

Diarmuid McMahon still hurling wing back for the Clare seniors nearly 30 (thirty) years later.:clap::clap:

Having the minors play before the seniors back in the day was one of my favourite parts of championship Sundays, after my old fella packed in the drink we’d often be in for the entire u16 match as well, being from a big club I’d usually know a few lads on the teams and I followed many careers of lads I first saw at that level

Was only saying it the other day , minor game before a big senior game were great

That’s not 1998.

Cork had Victor Cusack, Jonathan Olden, Martin Coleman and possibly Curran in1998.

Good call
Cork won the all Ireland in 98 captained by Cathal McCarthy (Son of Charlie)

There’s a great Twitter page with a similar purpose. Handy set of forwards on this minor team:

I also found the 1996 Tipp-Galway one. I remember that game as being a star studded classic, but on the Galway side Cloonan is the only recognisable name on the first 15.

Maybe 7 seniors from the Tipp side alright

I was sitting in the wheelchair section for that comeback. I rightly never trusted Tipp with a lead from that day on.

I know. He was corner forward.

Eoin Fitzgerald was in the other corner.

Coleman made a lucky save at the end of the semi final to get them through.

I am too young to remember him hurling then but Bonnie spent the majority of his peak years in America where commitment and fitness levels went astray. His wrists are storied around mid-west Tipperary.
He has a son on the Tipp minors this coming Saturday.

Eugene O’Neill was a boy wonder also and although winning an All Ireland in 2001 prob underachieved due to commitment/fitness issues.

Different times back then I suppose, the celtic tiger was flying and you could literally go out any night of the week.

I always thought that Pat Fitzgerald fella on yer bench was going to be a serious senior. Saw him play u20 alongside maybe Eoin McGrath and Eoin Kelly. Sniper.
