More GAA Shame

Jesus, go easy on him ffs. No need to lower the blade so early of a Friday morning.

Fair play, you finally got there, Christ I set it up since the first post

A bag of medals for sitting on a bench, fair play to him all the same.

He has a nice hair transplant though

As shrewd Dublin football observers always said ā€˜there’s a reason Costello could never crack the Dublin starting 15’

Is Costello the lad with more All Ireland medals than championship starts?

Hardly I’d say

Darren daly probably

Think I heard that before the All Ireland semi final

In 2018 he had 5 All Ireland medals from two championship starts so it’s probably correct.

One of those Championship starts was v Donegal in 2014.

He’s probably tied now at 7 All Ireland Medals and 7 Championship starts

That could be what I heard.

If you won one all Ireland medal , Would you value it if you never played a single match in the championship and were never more than a squad member ? You done all training , made all sacrifices etc but never played …

It’s all about being on the field and contributing. You can’t tell me a medal means as much to a benchwarmer

I don’t think I would.

I had to play, luckily I always merited my selection but if I didn’t get my chance I’d walk away.

I’d rather play and win nothing than win something but not play.

Its about the ethos/culture created by management. Team sport is about the squad. You park self interest. If you do this, then of course you value the medal. It should be no different to been on starting 15, or part of the management set up.

But deep down you’ll know the truth

Winners aren’t happy getting splinters in their arse and been given a participation medal

Stephen O Neill wouldn’t even take his medal in 2008

Probably a bit different in GAA intercounty terms though, you can’t just up and leave and join another team generally.

Some might go back and be more involved with their club but it’s a lower level and they are always going to be available to their club at the main point of the season.

I think there’s a certain timeframe as an intercounty panelist where you just say you’ve tried enough and it’s time to walk away.

Its about ā€˜adding value’ to the group.
