What was his disagreement with the provos over?
I’m led to believe he liked to act outside of orders.
I agree partially on Trap. Ok we never had the players but he made us strong in organisation and at set pieces, something which can be coached. O’Neill hasn’t done any of that. However his treating of us as a shower of mugs by not bothering initially to check out players at club level was shocking in my view.
Gusty Spence’s speech at the Loyalist ceasefire in 1994 was truly impressive. I also accept that he managed to bring loyalists away from the gun. At the same time he was also one of the main reasons why they took up the gun in the first place. Given that much of his sectarian, ethic cleansing type behaviour was carried out before the IRA even reformed makes it even more detestable.
