The junior Boxtys did Chicago - San Fran through Vegas a month ago along the coastal route you’re headed to. Epic stuff, incredible scenes.

I’ve been to them. South Africa is nicer in my honest opinion, and, as an entity, Europe is too. Canada is less ruined and just feels nicer. America is God’s own country, but my word in 400 years they’ve done their best to spoil it.
Could you put a little meat on this bone for me. They’ve had to have cities to house folk and build roads to move freight etc but those aside I’d welcome your views on how they’ve spoiled it.
Some of those cities are magnificent into the bargain.
Urban sprawl, pollution, LA is a dump, Vegas is a good laugh, but a blight on the landscape. Florida is an urban sprawl. The vast majority of America is empty.
The only reason swathes of America remain beautiful is because it is so vast.

You can buy a worldwide policy for car rental much cheaper as long as your credit card can take the excess until they pay you back.
