Munster, celtic league, heineken cup, general and tag rugby thread 🐐

Caught the end of the Clermont-Leicester game and was again shocked at the lack of game management at the end. What were the clowns thinking in carry it through phases and trying to line up a drop goal at 40-30 up when they should have thumped it sideways into the stand to finish the game? I imagine they didn’t realise the 80 minutes were up but they had the ball at the base of the last ruck for a good 20 seconds and you’d think someone would have sent the message on to end it. They could conceivably have given up a bonus point because of their messing.

Following on from that, what the fook was Kearney doing about 65 minutes in last night when it was 25-7 in going for a drop goal from near half way? The game was won but another try was required to seal the bonus point. There’s been loads of cases of lack of appreciation of the competition scoring system over the past few years. I recall Wasps being camped in Leinster’s 22 at the end of the game in Twickenham last season and they went for 3 points to pad out their 4 point lead from the last play of the game instead of going for a try that would have denied Leinster a bonus point.

It leads me to conclude that rugby football is a game played by thick thugs.

I can see Stade not showing up for the battle in Paris next weekend Puke.

They’re fairly fucked if they do

Ah Mac I was hoping to draw a little more out of that one.

Only after reading there that Rickie Januarie signed for the Ospreys in a three month loan deal during the weekand was excellent for them at the weekend, albeit against italian opposition

mike phillips must be injured??

also see that Liecster have that Lote Tuqiuri playing with them now

How would Brendan Fanning be regarded in terms of rugby football knowledge?

much like Dion regarding football, an irrelevance.

Ahead of Billy Keane and behind Neil Francis

is there anyone behind billy keane?

Tom Mooney

Steven Jones

At least he can make some kind of coherent sense.

Best example is probably the time in the Munster v Gloucester game back in 2003 when Gomarsall tapped a penalty on the 22 in front of the posts instead of taking the 3 points. There was about 5 minutes left and Munster were leading by 20 but needed to win by 27. A penalty would have meant Munster needed 10 with vey little time left and would have probably put Gloucester out of sight. In fairness the RTE commentators only copped what was needed with about 10 minutes left.

I see Flannery is after having an op on his achilles tendons and could well be a doubt for the start of the 6 nations…

Larry would you say there is any chance of Tomy Bowe returning to Ulster when his contract expires with the Ospreys…no doubt the Ospreys will be looking to keep him and the other two provinces would be interested in him

There’s three other Irish rugby football competing provinces aside from Ulster, Puke.

Bowe cited for dangerous tackle
Tuesday, 15 December 2009 15:24
Ireland and Ospreys star Tommy Bowe has been cited for a dangerous tackle on Viadana wing Kaine Robertson in the Heineken Cup Pool 3 match last weekend.

The ERC have confirmed that Citing Commissioner for the match Iain Goodall has questioned the challenge and Bowe must now wait for a hearing to be set to decide his fate.

Under the regulations, a dangerous tackle can be seen as lifting a player from the ground and either dropping or driving the opposing player on his head and/or upper body first into the ground, whilst the player’s feet are off the ground.

yes but relatively speaking only two of three provinces could afford him…

Lovely.
