What has it really got to do with where the players are from by the way. Are all Celtics players Scottish? Are all Shamrock rovers players from Miltown (or even Tallaght). No, but they are professional outfits, so they canât rely purely on homegrown talent.
Just like Barcelona, Milan, Man U etc etc etc.
Bandage - Last night was a success. From a purely sporting point of view Munster got to see that underneath the âStarâ players they have some quality young players who werenât afraid of some serious opposition. James Coughlan, Tim Ryan, Niall Ronan, Barry Murphy, Donnacha Ryan Warick etc all played really well.
It was also a success for promoting Munster in the Rugby world, which is important for revenue. Revenue keeps the best players, the best p[layers compete for trophys every year, people like their team being competitive, people get a release from the rugby and the success. None of this is bad, like ye like to potray it.
Iâm GAA first and foremost, and right here in my little part of the world i battle very hard (all the time) against rugby, to try and get my fellas more into hurling and football than rugby. Itâs a struggle, but i donât begrudge them one bit of it, Rugby has worked hard (and continues to do so) to get to the place itâs in, in Ireland. They struggle as well, particulary from an volunteer point of view, so i have great respect for them. They are afterall providing a great social outlet to kids and young adults alike. More power to them.
thats what it all boils down- a corporate creation selling jerseys - i could not have put it better myself
surely thats a better barometer of how good they are than how they do in meaningless friendlies?
anyway as i said im not a rogbee fan but when the next bandwagon rolls into town & you & puke are declaring your undying love for whoever it may be & you & pukey are talking about what it means for irish sport please forgive my scepticsm
Dont read the rugby threads in future. You dont see me wading into the soccer threads when fells are jacking off over the new football songs they have learned. Or the magnificent victory of one british side over another.
Exactly, just like Roma.
in fairness, the All blacks have cacked themselves in the world cups, nearly always failig when going in as favorites, but they won a crap load of tri nations (something like 9, as opposed to 2 each for Aus and SA). they are still a benchmark side, and the most famous rugby side around. but it doesnt make them unstoppable or anything.
as an aside, I cant stand Ryles pronunciation of some of the All blacks. maybe I was picking him up wrong, but he always seemd to say âDan Carterâ in an American type accent, and he sounded like he had a lisp when saying Rocokokoko.

Just after realising that was the 1,000th post on this threadâŚwell done to all involved, delighted to see there is so much interest in munster rugby on this forumâŚ
sorry the post wasnât very profoundâŚheres to the next thousand posts

in fairness they have bottled them alright but I would say there is more pressure on them from their fans to win the world cup than any other team in any other sportâŚ
It was either that or Duncan Stewart, only have Bog 1 and Bog 2 this week which is torturous. I actually watched a good bit of Duncan in fairness.
Munster game was good enough entertainment.
As an aside, was talking to an ex rugby pro lately who was doing a show with Hookey recently. Hookey was prepping him on what to say and emphasised that he must leave his personal opinion and engage with Hookey in controversial disagreement. My man politely declined Hookeys invitation and stuck to his guns.
So any of the shite that RTE were spouting last night is just that, shite. McGurk is some clown, asking a question ignoring the answer and weighing in with some other comment about the magical atmosphere. Tool.
chill mate, this is a internet forum, there are going to be opposing voices - the hyperbole in the media irks me so I decided to post on the thread, say what you like about SRFC,Roma or any other team/sport- it doesnt boter me in the slightest
Some great discussion here today, only catching up with it now.
Munster were unlucky not to get a result last night and it would have been and probably still was a memorable night for their fans. I hope they enjoyed it. Massive credit must go to the Munster marketing department for turning this friendly into something many of us feel that itâs not. I doubt it will live long in the memory of many All-Blacks fans though

great post
Chill? why do you think I need to chill? I am just engaging in the conversation with you. You have stated on several occassions your not a rugby man, so why wade in with your opinion?
if you have an issue with the hyperbole in the media maybe take it to a Media thread.
I guess I have hit a nerve about Roma though.

The anti-hyperbole on this thread has irked me today.
Stick to the fucking joyriding.

Except the oneâs that were actually there
why would they remember it?
maybe I should create a different thread for it, but something I mentioned earlier was Munsters marketing in creating this âteam for the common manâ. why is it that Munster fans think their side is so great and down to earth and not like the ânancy boysâ fom Leinster.
the amount of people I know in the province of Leinster who support Munster because they can relate to the side better than those D4 heads is unreal. they are from the same cut as each other.
And its shite like last nights practise game between the reserves and hook saying about how Leinster wouldnt compete as they dont have tradition. give me a break.
Some valid points, and I would rate both HEC victories, and beating Leinster in the semi as better than 1978.
Just on the point highlighted above. I think to say that it was choerographed is harsh and incorrect. The Maori take the haka very seriosuly and I dont think there is any way Tipoki, who captained the NZ Maori would have done it if he thought it was inappropriate. Apparently he got approval from his maori elders to perform it.
I meant anything besides the game was so choreographed. But yeah, the word choreographed could absolutely be attached to the haka. They all keep such perfect rhythm!
Seriously though, I understand that the haka has a rich tradition but that doesnât mean it hasnât been over exposed by the All Blacks especially in more recent times.
Have a look at the âFacing the hakaâ thread to see my views on that.

yeah, nothing worse than being stuck beside some twat from churchtown at the water cooler telling you how down to earth munter rogbee players are

watched back over the match this afternoon and hook said that leinster wouldnât compete as they donât have the heart and in fairness without all the point scoring on this thread in all honesty they donâtâŚhow many times have they flattered to deceive or bottled it, granted at times they have turned in some excellent performances but more often than not when it comes down to it they bottle itâŚ
It wasnât a practice match eitherâŚthey are normally played at low key venues with 3 men and a dog at them
