Youā€™ll be proven right yet Sidney

Clermont are shitting the course

That was comically inept defending by the Clermont player a few minutes ago.

Update please sid

Jones took a Clermont defender out off the ball.

Its over, Clermont 20 points better.

Hmmm.

Jones was taken out by the defender and that call at the end with the forward pass was a bizarre call and obviously wrong.

Tremendous bravery, defiance and graciousness in defeat from Raj, POC and Django.

Score?

16-10

Who won?

Munster really blew that in the end. Clermont were there for the taking. Oā€™Connell always tries to do too much with the ball.

It was a credit to their doggedness and Clermonts shit the pot mentality that they were still that close to begin with. A misse opportunity for sure though.

The next time some cunt goes on about the French clubs and the money they have, remind them that to date this season Leinster have used 52 players. 52.

Thatā€™s different. Thatā€™s a credit to their academy system.

Do they not pay these 52+ players.

Some of them, but IRFU foot most of the bill for the International players. Leinsters main wage out goings would be in bonuses and development contracts, which are not that big.

The French boys get way bigger money. They wouldnā€™t be there otherwise. Whatever about Toulon and Toulouse (who bring thru alot if academy players) which are beautiful places to live, Clermont is a shithole. Youā€™d have to be in big money.

Iā€™d be interested in seeing the list. Iā€™d bet that 12 of the 52 probably got less than 10k each and that the bottom 22 odd players might have got c 750 k between them. Plenty on nothing more than student bursary, and probably played single figure mins in the season. Munster have 44 pros, Way too many, with a layer of low paid tackle bag holders at the bottom.

Very hard to get a handle on the wage bill because of he central contract issue but I believe Munster cover just over 2 m of wage costs themselves. Max 10 centrally contracted players, maybe a lot less, then you can see between 30 odd players the average salary is average & much worse if you run the avg excluding highly paid overseas players . Plenty lads playing for the status of being a pro player and not much else. Itā€™s the IRFUs greatest achievement to keep these lads at home when they could make far more elsewhere, not talking about BOD and the likes, but fellas like Billy Holland, Kev McLaughlin, Ruddock, Ian Nagle could all make lot more cash in France or UK.

wtf?

there are professional athletes getting paid less than the minimum wage?

Semi pro would even be stretching it for a lot of them. Students, and members of a provincial academy.

How would you calculate the minimum wage for athletes I wonder? If based on Time spent training etc then the vast majority of irish athletes and boxers would be well below min wage Iā€™d imagine
