Munster, celtic league, heineken cup, general and tag rugby thread 🐐

That ref cam thing Sky had for the rugby at the weekend was some pile of shite.

I never found out the final score, lads?

For the “real” rugby people on here.

Great move by IRFU.

i see tickets are still available for the British lions:D

Oh don’t worry, the Aussies will row in behind the crown in due course, like they have many times in the past.

About time too. The notion that anybody should be getting paid to play at AIL level is absurd and has been for years. Even when the best players were in the league, there were teams with mixtures of full time pros and players getting nothing which ruined a few clubs.

I presume there’s no payment restriction on coaches so we’ll probably see a big increase in player coaches etc.

What do you mean by etc.?

That’s a good question Appendage. I mean it to include other types of non-playing personnel that would be similar to a coach but rather than list them all out individually, I’ve just used the shorthand “etc.”

Examples would include: backs coach, forwards coach, scrummaging coach, assistant coach, lineout coach. I am wondering whether clubs who can no longer pay players might employ some of them in various coaching roles, creating a player-assistant coach (like Bandage with TFK AFC) and avoid the restrictions that way.

Maybe, but it won’t be long before people will see that ain’t that easyto pull off and you need a really particular type of fella to pull that off. The work that an AIL coach puts (well the couple i came across anyway) in would rival IC GAA management. Now could you imagine a player in GAA doing that? It would be shown up pretty quickly.

Of course I think you are saying it could be used as a cover. But it would only take one club member to not like it for it to blow up.

Coaches, physio’s, S&C, Trainers etc should all be entitled to be paid IMO if they have some level of qualifications. I think it would encourage more people into important roles in the game that are very time consuming. It’s easier for a guy to justify it to his family if he is at least getting expenses.

A few clubs in Limerick will be delighted to hear that.
One club in particular has been teethering on the brink and players hadn’t been paid in a long time.

That’s what they do at my old club. The manager is player/manager and on pretty decent coin for what looks like about 20 hours per week.

Kind of like how Parnells pay their gaelic pro’s, underage coaches, games development officers, and gym assistants.

I believe one if those development officers has done a top job, so I think you are being a bit unfair.

Feel free to correct me, I have no problem with that. Which one? And what sort of job have the rest done?

Well there are only 2 isn’t there? And they were getting big kudos from some local guy up there and I saw it brought up somewhere when this same tired old argument came up.

I dunno, you seemed to know, I was asking you to elaborate further? Not being funny, but is that it?
