Didnā€™t hear that interview but I find it hard to believe. They were just mentally unprepared from what I saw. Now thatā€™s his job, to have them right, but good coaches have often got that wrong and not lost the dressing room.

What made you think he has lost dressing room?

He gave the players a good rooting in the interview, rightfully so IMO. Calculated gamble on his part Iā€™d hope. Tonight will tell a lot.

Didnā€™t some gang send over a 3rd string last season to play Munster in the Heineken Cup?

Keith Earls is really a huge disappointment of a player. You have to wonder has the class been coached out of him.

He over runs the ball alarmingly. For me Lualala is a pretty predictable team mate, yet Earls over runs him all the time. Itā€™s embarrassing for a professional.

Munster look confused still, 15 months later. There is nothing to them. Kinda neither here not there, not value to watch for balls and grit and rolling mauls etc nor are they exciting moving the ball.

I got an invite for pre-match dinner and the game. I went along to watch the event from a dispassionate viewpoint and it was much as i expected. The onfield highlight was the choirs rendition of Coldplay at halftime. Mind you the grub and pints were very good before and after the game in the function room at the ground while the treble act of hayes/flannery/horan has some possibilities.

point o

point of order - that was a stirring rendition of Take Thatā€™s ā€œRule the Worldā€, from the motion picture Stardust.
the acoustics in a stadium without enclosed terraces places a choir at a disadvantage.

throws the rest of your post into some doubtā€¦

Iā€™d agree with the general point re Munster. They donā€™t know what their best game plan is really and shifting from one to the other. Backs have no cutting edge. Going back over years had far less skilful players (Horgan, Kelly, Dowling, Crotty etc) but a simple effective game plan that played to their strengths.

Re Earls. Heā€™s been shoved from pillar to post across the backline, had loads of injuries too, needs a long run in one position. Heā€™s a winger and thatā€™s it. Hands or defence not good enough to play in centre at high level. Wouldnā€™t write him off by any means.

Earls is crook, pal. He will play on through the pain tho for the money, as sadly, his daughter has a serious medical conditionā€¦ He will never reach the heights promised.

From having worked here in sport I get the feeling in this part of the world they are obsessed with putting their mark on a team and adjusting a culture. I donā€™t really talk to anyone involved in Munster anymore so I donā€™t get a great insight, but he seems like another coach who from the outside looking in thought he can change A,B,C but when he gets there itā€™s a different ball game. If you really think change will help you need to gain a lot of trust internally first. That could take a year and one, he needs the support of the bosses and two, he needs to be patient and fit in somewhat as well. From the outside something has gone wrong there.

Looks like he is keeping it warm for Foley anyway.

Really, whatā€™s up with her?

Iā€™d say you get some dig down around your old neighbourhood if you said that too loud. Cop on to yourself

I forget the exact conditionā€¦ She was on life support for months when bornā€¦ think its heart related. He was told a warm climate would be better for her and I thought he might try push for a move to France.

What that he is in bits ? Or his daughter is not well? Both are very publicly known.

Think your spot on with your point there. Heā€™s a very good coach I think, but Iā€™d say a situation of Foley 1 Penney 2, which would never happen, would be far better combo.

That you called him a crook.

I had never heard one word about his daughter by the way, not to say its not true or anything but certainly not as widely known as you might have thought.

Your not by any chance thinking of Paul Warwick? Pretty identical situation there

He said he is crook I.e. banjaxed, not a crook

So a crock?

I donā€™t think soā€¦ It was relayed to me on a very boozy night tho and you have me doubting myself but I know for a fact his daughter is very ill. Anyway, the important thing is we got the win mate, and we go marching on.

Thatā€™s awful, the poor girl and family. Big burden for any father.
