Mike Prendergast is back, weāre all set for next year now!
A strange one for sure. Prendys best ever game in Thomond was for Bourgoin FFS!! Loyal servant etc but not HEC dual winners quality. Wont see much action Id guess
i was full sure he retiredā¦i would asy he will be 4th choice at most behind o leary stringer and gerry hurley
gerry hurleys contract wasnt renewed I dont think, TOl, Stringer, Duncan Williams, Prendy is order Id guess. Sam Cronin the UCC scrum half is far better bet than Prendergast as well at this stage but hes young and need more expereince
If I were Duncan Williams Id bail out now, head to England where he might get some game time coz he wont see much action for Munster with those two ahead of him, neither TOLor Stringer will want to give up chance to play with the other breathing down there neck.
mates up in Con reckon Williams is great, potentially whatever he wants if a little injury prone. Few times Iv seen him he has been fookin electric
Dan, would you have any idea what the āsquadā players for Munster would be earning?
how old is williams danā¦only heard of himā¦never seen him play but is supposed to be a decent prospectā¦considering stringer is still 30 i presume he will stay with munster for the duration of his professional career(although you never know) that 4 or 5 years potentially some one could have to waitā¦although the likes of buckley and flannery are good examples of players who bided their time and have reeped the benefitsā¦
ROG/hayes/POC/DOC etc i.e top ranking would be on 250+ id say as they are paid for both Munster and there International contract
First teamers non international I dont have a clue really, 100k maybe?
Squad Squad members i.e. magners league players 60k id say based on some third hand info
junior squad members could be fook all 25-30k, not bad wedge for a young fella I guess but not exactly premiership standardā¦
I read an article last year about steffon armitage (L Irish flanker) and he was on something fookin ridiculous at Saracens like 7.5k or soemthing like that and was playing on fringes of the first teamā¦id want 7.5k every fookin time id have to tackle the likes of Rabeni or Tuilagi FFS!!!
21/22, not that young like. Serious prospect
Strings might move on, he has done 10 years so he can claim his tax back, move for one big payday to england, he is durable little hoor there is years left in him, his game was never built on pacy break or anything and hes never injured. Id like to see him go to be honest (with my hearty thanks for all hes done) he is great back up but we need to develop someone else and it wont happen with him thereā¦he would get a contract at any club in england or france id say

Cheers, that more than I expected to be honest.
I know that some of the younger guys, playing in the AIL, who get brought into the squad for Magners league games but wouldnāt have proper contracts, get paid on a per match basis was something like 300 per game and another 200 if you actually played the match. I heard this through a friend a couple of years back so not sure if itās still the case.
I assume the majority of them would be getting the sponsored cars, phones etc aswell. Itās a fairly short career span as well i suppose, as they would tend to the older when they eventually step into the international panels etc, compared to soccer players who could be earning the big money from their late teens.

apart from the top tier I am just guessing somewhat
Have a feelin this is an indication the Strings is off to cash in for a year or soā¦ might fancy perpignan to team up with Dan Carter. Best of luck to him if he does.
Need to now sign a back row or international standard and maybe another winger/fullback, if dowling is going to be holding tacklebags in International camp, and reckon Earls will get called up for training as well after his cāhill cup efforts.
Fogarty moving from connaught to leinster prob means that Cronin will get loads of game time up there which id good for himā¦ as he will prob be back pushing Flannery in a couple of years when Sheahan is gone. Would like to see hurley (prop) getting plenty of time next seasonā¦
Thinking of who will be in the extended International squad ā Horan, Bull, Flannery, Buckley, POC, DOC, Ryan, MOD, Leamy, Quinlan, Wallace, OāL, Stringer, ROG, Dowlingā¦ With the possibility of Murphy & Earls getting tackle bag call ups. That leaves us needing additional in all lines of the forwards and prob 2 utility backsā¦ need to get going on the signings really.
Its a big old wheel that keeps on turning!! Jean Baptiste Ellisalde comments after last nights Top 14 final
Ellisalde has changed his tune:
My translation:
Question:, for JBE, itās been one month since Toulouse were at the bottom of a hole after the H-Cup defeat in Cardiff. Does this victory erase that painful memory?
Answer from JBE: No, no it doesnāt erase it as we could have done the double, Now, itās easy or pointless to talk about it. It doesnāt make up for anything. Certainly the defeat in the final taught us to keep the ball at the end. I have criticised Munster for this, and we did this at the end, the pick and go, itās not beautiful, but itās realistic
Goon man Jean, took you fucking long enough.
Did youy watch this game Dan? Savage contest, some amazing rugby, the Heymans try was one of the most astonishing pieces of rugby Iāve ever seen.

no couldnt access it anywhere, where did you see it?? Was it on eurosportā¦in dublin you only get fookin brit eurosport or something
Yea Eurosport had it, I thought Setanta had it also though? You should look up the try, amazing. Happy to see Toulouse come out with something from their season. Clermonts bench is astonishing though, they lost the Argie hookers who name escapes me, Ledesma perhaps, but they go and bring on Smit for him, crazy stuff really.

magahan cautious on heineken cup
Munster will step into the unknown when they open the defence of their Heineken Cup title against tournament newcomers Montauban at a revamped Thomond Park on Friday, 10 October.
But Tony McGahan, Munsterās new director of coaching, accepts that any French club from the top half of their hugely competitive domestic competition is going to provide a huge challenge.
āMontauban will be a very interesting - and difficult - start for us and, at the moment, we donāt know that much about them,ā said McGahan.
'However, they have done superbly well in the Top 14 in order to qualify for the Heineken Cup for the first time and there is absolutely no way we will be under-estimating them.
āThe Heineken Cup is a fantastic competition and I cannot wait for it to start - but it will be vital we get some real momentum going in the Magners League before then.ā
Munster are out on their own in having qualified for the last 10 tournament knock-out stages but Australian-born McGahan, a key member of the Irish provinceās coaching team for the past three seasons, accepts the champions are there to be shot at in a tough Pool that also contains last monthās French Championship finalists ASM Clermont Auvergne and double European Challenge Cup winners Sale Sharks.
It is the second successive season Munster and ASM Clermont Auvergne have locked horns - each winning their home encounters but Munster qualifying for the last eight courtesy of the losing bonus point they earned at Parc des Sports Marcel-Michelin on 13 January - and Munster and Sale Sharks were Pool opponents in the 2005/06 tournament.
āHistory shows no-one has any given right to make progress in the tournament and Munster, just like all the other 23 teams, have to start all over again when the Heineken Cup begins in October,ā he said.
'Getting out of your Pool is everyoneās initial aim but we are looking no further than the first block of two games and, once those are behind us, we will concentrate on the next block of two and so on.
'We have got a huge amount of respect for ASM Clermont Auvergne and we have been very impressed with the way they have conducted themselves in both the Top 14 and the Heineken Cup in recent seasons.
'They have just had a fantastic season and we are under no illusions of the type of rugby they can produce at home in particular but I guess there is a little bit of an advantage in having played them in last seasonās Heineken Cup Pool stages.
'That said, they will have pushed things forward since then and I am sure they will have some new tricks up their sleeves - just as I am confident we will have when the tournament kicks-off - and we are, yet again, looking forward to testing ourselves against a truly fantastic French club.
āFor their part Sale Sharks have been extremely active in signing new players such as Dwayne Peel and Mathew Tait and we know they are a very well coached and organised side who, especially with those quality additions to their roster, complete a very difficult Pool for us.ā
hopefully he can get in another back row before the start of the seasonā¦heard over the weekend that they are in talks with an unnamed south african and anthony foley is being kept on stand by in case they canāt get adaquete cover ala shaun payne last seasonā¦
Is williams still injured ?
I had heard that he was and that was why Mike Prendergast was brought into the squad. When the two lads are away with the Irish squad it leaves it pretty thin.
Cant believe Johnno Gibbs is gonna be new Leinster backs coach, woulda thought heād be as good as some of their back rowers still surely? Great signing by Cheika.
forwards coach
hes retired fully from injuries, insurance pays out if you retire ahead of schedule, cant play anymore after this, not even tag
Yea, of course, forwards coach, sorry, slip of the keyboard there, was getting ahead of myself referring to him as a back row and said backs instead of forward.
He was a beast of a player, you have to think thats a great signing.
