Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 1)

Now I know what you will look like in 10 years time. Sallow and bald.

No baldness here, kid.

Toby was a class player. I don’t think he would have been in the top 10 of scuts to play for Munsters in that team. No 1 on that team would have been outhalf Micko “Psycho” Benson. He made Peter Clohessy look like an angel.

Talk to me round 2025

His forte actually was flexing in front of a mirror.

He was a scrum half being a scut goes with the territory.

Load of super characters knocking around with the cookies back then. Clossehys, Brosnihan, Ger Earls, the Fitz twins.

Used to go down to a good few AIL games there as a teenager some crack. The Garden of Getsomebody

You can have most of the list, indeed brossie is a thorough gentleman, but I won’t allow the fritz twins. No way.

Ha why not?

It just is.

Is one of those Fitz brothers your talking about Pat ‘Skippy’ Fitzgibbon by any chance? Have heard he was a fine player?

No they are Fitzgerald. A hooker and scrum half

Oh right. Have you ever heard of Pat ‘Skippy’ Fitzgibbon of Young Munster? Was he any good etc. Have been told he was. Played in 70s/80s AFAIK.

Way before my time sorry

The best character for Young Munster in the 90’s was that lady with the goat…and Mrs Reddan with the dogs in the pram.

Tough on Anthony Foleys family…but it shouldn’t distract from the franchise which Munster Rugby is…it killed the club game which was noble back in the early to mid 90’s in Limerick.

A nice piece by Malachy Clerkin, on Foley’s passing and why it affects people.

Rubbish

The IRFU killed the club game by adopting the provincial model for European competition. Munster no more guilty than ulster/connacht/leinster in that regard. When IRFU realised it was a cash cow and had the ability to compete at rhe top end of european rugby they completely neglected the club game

The clubs themselves need to bear large element of the blame. Never tried to work with the professional side really and over the years allowed their vested interests (buckets of international tickets) to stop themselves working together properly to regroup. The division one clubs in munster would cut the throats of the lesser senior clubs in a heartbeat, all the munster clubs think they are being rode and schemes against by the Dublin based clubs etc…it’s lazy to think the professional game killed the AIL because it’s quite likely the AIL would have killed itself if it was left at it. Big crowds but money being pumped into it was ridiculous and some clubs still have the hangover of it.

I’d have way more interest in club rugby than professional even now and it need a massive overhaul. Needs a generation change in running of the clubs as well though

The fuck you axin’ me for bro ???

Any outdoor activity that decrees that the possession of the principal accoutrement: ie: the ball, remain invisible for the majority of the playing time must accordingly be deemed Funboy Recreation.

Kindly refrain from seeking my opinion on matters of this nature going forward.

Theres a nice few Prods in Leitrim sure, the Orange Order were quite active and well supported there for years. Don’t recall ever being regaled of the fighting deeds of the Leitrim IRA either when it mattered. Are we talking Grade A Souptakers here?
