Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 1)

its safe to say that today eclipsed the 2007 match between Ireland and England in Croke Park in terms of emotionalism

properly

Youā€™ve a lovely way with words. Lovely.

Foley lifting the Heineken Cup after years of effort is much more serving.

*The parish of Balina then the lake/river

I attended this game today for the following reasons.

i) Curiosity.
ii) Grief junkieism*.
iii) Event junkieism.
iv) The decent value price of a ticket (ā‚¬20).
v) Crossing Thomond Park off my bucket list as Iā€™d never attended a game there before (although itā€™s not the first time Iā€™ve been there).
vi) Itā€™s a reasonably short run from Galway to Limerick.
vii) An element of nostalgia because I attended several Munster matches in Dublin and elsewhere in the previous decade and always had a liking for the team Foley played on.
viii) It being a beautiful Autumn day and Limerick being a nice place to go for a day out.
ix) So I could tell other people about it on social media.

I enjoyed it and came away thoroughly impressed with both Munsterā€™s performance and the stadium. I found the atmosphere struck just the right tone for the occasion, muted at stages but still fervently supportive of the team, respectful and not overbearing in terms of conspicuous displays of grief compared to how teams, particularly in the US, pile on the schmaltz when any unfortunate non-sporting event happens. I did get very slightly irked at the amount of people who were taking photographs of the mosaic display in the stand during the minuteā€™s silence before the game. I hope Munster go on to do well this season and particularly in this competition.

*I didnā€™t really attend for reason ii).

If youā€™re going by the bridge, sure

Thatā€™s beautiful Sid. Today was like watching the umbilical cord between Munster Rugby and the Munster people being reattached. Munster Rugby can never die.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Couldnā€™t be prouder of that performance in the circumstances. Some real men came to the fore today. Hope it will be the makings of them now.

Not right to single one out but Peter O Mahony. Wow. Balls as big as a house.

Scannell and sweetman have massive futures.

Yes, very impressive from Oā€™Mahony to lead his team to that sort of performance having played only 60 minutes of rugby (or so I heard on the radio commentary) in the last year, and with 14 men for most of the game. A worthy successor to Foley as captain of his team and certainly the totemic figure for them going forward.

I still canā€™t know how that ref had the gall to send off one of our lads with the day that was in it

Above all he is an excellent player but he is a very good leader as well.

Sky sports deserve huge credit. I heard they ran the whole day for munster. Very professional.

That song ā€œTo Build a Homeā€ that they used for their montage is very poignant and stunningly beautiful. Sky owe Munster a lot.

What?

The Heineken cup do not sure sky does.
