Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 2)

Wpuld there be much cross over? I wouldn’t say so, how many of the NaP team played rubby amd harty up for ASR?

Dan Goggin was a fine underage hurler with Na Piarsaigh.

Was he with NaP? Thought he was Ahane? Im sure he played mackey cup

Arra… it’s prime shannon territory. Numbers underage over the last 20 years must have taken a small hit

Possibly, other factors involved too long before hurlings dominance. Shannon and marys were the first underage team to amalgamate, now its very common in the city. Before you used to have 15/16 teams in an underage league, now lucky maybe 8 with with 2 or 3 city clubs joining to field and stand alones with be ourselves and the country teams. Bohs had 2 teams at my age group

Fairly sure he was. I seem to remember himself and another lad, whose name I can’t recall, missing out on a minor final after signing with the Munster Academy.

Fair enough, he never played for shammon tho, bohs underage then YM. Munster are strict on that nlt playing other sports once under contract

At u 16 level there are 50 clubs in the minster wide competition that plays out in round robin format. Some amalgamations but the likes of Shannon would have a more mature residential area in their catchment…sunday’s well and dolphin the same…no young families living around which makes it v hard at underage levels

More rural clubs if you want to call the likes of Bandon that would put two squads into comps at 14s 16s and 18.5s

My own club have fielded three 16s teams in the same weekend this season a few times, would be somewhat exception numbers wise but has been trending towards this for a while. We would have a massive rural catchment and id say a dozen national schools feeding into it at least

Plenty young families around caherdavin, woodview. NaP definitely eating into numbers

The city clubs are hit hard by the schools ‘panelling’ players for schools cup competitions. Primary age numbers are fine. The country teams dominate those competitions now, but you dpnt see that transition to adult. Waterpark are always stromg for example

What ive seen is most players for us underage were children of people who were local ballincurrag/janesboro etc but moved out to the countryside. Not many local. Soccer is a bigger threat than GAA for numbers.

Don’t know about limerick but CBC for example would release lot of players back to the clubs once they realize they won’t make JCT squad…play mccarthy cup or whatever with school and play away in clubs comp in munster then…that should be 100% enforced across the board

I dunno was carberry Munster or Leinster or both, but he’s playing great for Bordeaux today. Admirable. Smashing game too in the sunshine.

Six (6) tries for Damian Penaud in an abrasive game.

Who are Munster going to get ?

I don’t know did I ever see a fella getting a hat trick in each half before

It was a tough match too before the saffers downed tools.

O Garas lads

He was great for Leinster. Brightest young player in Europe.

Handed over to Munster and it went downhill, for whatever reason.

It speaks volumes for him that he’s more than surviving in France. What a life, playing sport in Bordeaux, but french rugby looks attritional.
