Munster Senior Hurling Championship 2023 (Part 1)

If Rte didn’t show the early years of the Heineken cup in rugby I doubt anybody would have ever bothered with it. The fact it was on Rte is what got people interested.

PJ’s sportswashing gave the rewards necessary to keep the squad interested over a long period of time. Holidays, free kit, pro-ams, getting off driving fines and drunken assaults and the like. Without it, Limericks would I suspect have followed a more normal course of a non-kk county. Won one or two all Ireland’s over the squad lifetime before returning to normal life.

Free content and there’s a lot more talk around the place about fucking golf than there is the hurling on Sunday.

Leinster are apparently playing a European cup q/f tonight and nobody knows about it. The sport was lost behind a pay wall.

If only people in the gaa watched and looked what’s going on in other sports.

Please don’t tell me you are classing Limerick as a tier 1 county. You can just about hold an interest in one sport at a time if you’re winning.
Galway are GAA aristocracy, maintaining a genuine interest across the board. We won’t scuttle off to rubby at the first sign of a downturn. Yere like @dodgykeeper and Manu.

I’m sure all that turned the likes of Hegarty from a wild swinging footballer into one of the greatest of all time… Gillane, from a lad who couldn’t get on underage teams, into a star forward. Turned Barry Nash from a star under age forward into a corner back etc etc etc…

This strawman you Galways and Tippos have built is a lovely out and the reason you can’t win. You’d rather point at JP than put in the work like the @Limericks have… Go have another might mac meal for yourself

The Masters is on FTA is it? What are you on about, the causal fan hasn’t seen a golf shot on telly in 15 years

You can watch more shots on their free to air app than sky sports.

We had the greatest hurling coach of all time and the best Limerick manager ever bringing them through and improving them out of all recognition while they had Mickey mouse set ups half the time.

I always wondered how suggestive Fianna Fáil and Fianna Gael governments who were utterly useless got repeatedly elected over the last 100 years but when you see the reaction on here to croke park destroying the games for a few pound it is easier to understand.

Auld lads who can’t manage electronic tickets are expected to work an app for golf?

I never said that but In golf the masters is far more popular than the other majors. Nobody cares about the British open since the Bnc cut the rights. Once it went behind a paywall nobody cared.

If you get content out there it helps massively to grow the sport.

If you put it behind a paywall it impacts it hugely. The gaa are constantly picking the pay wall.

Same with Irish horse racing. Went from atr to racing tv and basically nobody signed up.

A total disaster.

I only heard yesterday on the way to training that Leinster are playing Leicester Tigers in the Champions Cup quarters tonight. Assumed it was a break week with URC games on instead. Years ago a meeting of Leicester and Leinster would be Box Office. They only sold 24k tickets for the Aviva but Donal Lenihan was trying to paint a narrative that it was great to sell so many tickets in one week.

Rugby is a game that just shouldn’t be professional and it’s suffered massively because and that’s been compounded then by the move behind pay wall. It just isn’t accessible anymore.

In 06 Munster sold out landsdowne road v Perpignan in a 1/4 final. Now Leinster can barely half fill it.

The gaa is going the exact same way. The money to run teams is gone out of control and only a few counties can afford it. It’s crazy what’s being allowed happen.

Jaysus don’t tell us you’re hearing up another full day of this?

The marketing campaign around the Heineken cup was very savvy added to Munster & Leinsters eternal quest to win the cup.

When Munster actually won the damn thing, many people lost interest. Mayo could follow suit if they actually won a few all Irelands.

I know in Tipp, we have our best following after a decade in the wilderness.

It was free to air.

Did that hurt a bit?

I’m fairness to Galway I doubt any side made the all Ireland series more than then over the last 50 odd years.

I was only asking questions.
