Munster Senior Hurling Championship 2025

Cork lads are soft, they should have told the Limerick PA announcer to fuck off as well for trying to put off Darragh Fitz as he was lining up to swing over the last 65.

Random, and genuinely honest, thoughts on the game (likely to be unpopular):

  1. Limerick are better, more skilful hurlers than Cork. They work the ball better, create openings better and defend WAY better. Limerick remain able to hammer Cork when they click, Cork can’t do that to Limerick
  2. Cork benefited from the lax refereeing more than Limerick did. Both teams fouled, but I think it suited the Cork backs who, had they not been able to hold, would have been in more trouble than the Limerick backs
  3. Cork showed really admirable grit and belief to come back up to Limerick so soon after getting a hiding and lock horns with Limerick again. Limerick hadn’t lost a single final under Kiely before Saturday
  4. Building on part three, the fact that Cork were able to win, (or draw, or draw/win, or whatever) will add to their self-belief hugely. Pat Ryan has fantastic evidence to show his players that they are now mentality-monsters. It can’t be understated how big this could be for Cork
  5. Cork need to do something about their full-back line or it’ll cost them
  6. Shane Barrett is unreal and him being back makes Cork’s forwardline way more dangerous. A man who just understands finding space, making space, making his marker move somewhere he doesn’t want to go and yet still able to finish in his own right.
  7. There is an unpleasantness between the supporters. Both sets of fans don’t like each other, and to an extent I haven’t seen before in hurling
  8. If they meet again in the year, Limerick will either hammer Cork, or lose a close game to them.
  9. Last Saturday was far from the best game I’ve seen but, in terms of atmosphere and edge of the seat tension, it was among the best I’ve ever experienced in any sport
  10. I don’t have a tenth point

Sarky-bollocksyness will resume shortly

was item 4 not achieved by Cork in the Munster Round Robin when they had to beat Limerick and they did so in the dying seconds and again in the all ireland semi final when they beat Limerick in a tight finish to dethrone them and ruin the 5 in a row?

item 6 - it was madness to move Shane Barret out of 11 in the first place, several here that called that out weeks back

I checked out after this ….

You should reflect on your own role in this :+1:

I’d agree with him to a point. Cian Lynch was battered all over the field second half onwards. … But Cork left an ocean of space at the back and i think Batigol is saying because the backs could do as they wanted Limerick never got to take advantage of this… which meant their HB line could stay playing a bit further up squeezing our HF. It aided the Cork game plan more for sure.

I’ve had Cork top of the Power Rankings for ages. I’m not the problem

Limerick have resurrected the careers at Lehane and Kingston. Might be no bad thing in the short term.

Corks match v Tipp will be reffed differently… there was too much let go in munster final.ref is getting criticism for not controlling it better…standard of refereeing has been poor all year.

Will be like the furore after a random round in the league when refs go mad for steps or throws or handing out reds, then Joanne and Co make a big song and dance out of it, managers pipe up, and the following round the refs rule totally differently

It’s nothing like that really. He let everything go to the point of complete farce and blew for random trees here of there with the players having no clue what was a free and what wasn’t. It was actually a danger to players the way he reffed the game. It was nonsense.

There’s letting a match flow and then there’s that. Someone will get a serious injury one day due to the nonsensical whistle-in-the-pocket attitude a ref could bring.

Interesting that Jamie Wall on second captains calling out Byrnes as the real weakness in limericks defence and was the target for cork. Said most of scores came from his wing.

Didn’t notice it too much watching live.

It was ridiculous. All for defending refs but and yes they have a tough job but there’s a duty of care to the players.

You also saw players with no idea what was a free during the game and the occasional free blown apparently at random in the second half. That’s affects the game too. I don’t think he favoured a team so at least there is that. I do think cork played him better, especially at the back.

Belated and hearty congratulations to the Carkies, I didn’t think they had it in them to be blunt. They were full value for it and I didn’t see that work rate or doggedness in them before.

Delighted for Pat Ryan, he seems like a decent skin, the emotions got the better of him in one clip I saw of him on the field after and you could see he was overcome with the release of it all, given the recent family bereavement.

I’d pay no mind to the pub videos, let them have their win and enjoy it.

Limerick haven’t gone away but the writing is on the wall and it’s getting harder and harder to reproduce to the same standard as before. Wides, yes. Being able to function effectively when put under sustained pressure, not yes.

Dublin will be no push over. They’ll relish the physical, a free shot. Limerick should advance, just.

That shot map on the right for Cork would suggest that alright. Those cork half forwards & fitzgibbon are very strong on their left shooting off that wing.

Limerick score an awful lot in that 13 corner from Gillane/AOC who are excellent using their left coming infield.

Byrnes is the weak link for two years

If that’s what your conscience truly tells you then that’s ok. I guess
