That’s a tad ridiculous alright.

- Michael Kavanagh
- Paul Murphy
- Brian Corcoran
- Stephen McDonagh

One will always slip through the mind alright. That’s probably because Kilkenny players tended to be faceless automatons. I’d have him in my top three at 13, I suppose.

Henry Shefflin
Ben O’Connor
Jamesie O’Connor
Eoin Larkin
John Leahy
Johnny Dooley
Full forwards (1982 - 2012)
DJ Carey

Was Wayne Sherlock a left or a right corner back? He was a great hurler. In Stephen MacDonagh & Damien Reale Limerick have had two of the best in that postion over the last 20 odd years. Condon will be as good if not better, though maybe a full.
Eoin Kelly [Chipp] is the best corner forward of the last 25 years. Any debate not using this as a basic given is not worth debating imo. He single handedly carried the stone throwers for years and had skills and touch even King Henry couldn’t emulate. Of course Henry is a much better player but I reckon Kelly was naturally the best hurler I’ve ever seen.
i can only assume its a wind up having him at 3 in the best no 13 category? Nothing against John Mullane who is fantastic but saying he’s better than Kelly is like saying Wayne Rooney is better than Messi.
Mullane has outscored Kelly from play over the last decade - he is the game’s highest scorer from play in that time.
No Ciaran Carey?
I don’t think he ever recovered from PJ O’Connell’s destruction of him in Thurles. Carey and Liam Dunne would both be up there though.
It has been well established that Carey was vastly overrated.

[/quote]Suggesting that Eoin Kelly was a better corner forward than Nicky English has to be a bit of a joke really. No one doubts that Kelly had the skills but he didn’t have the discipline or application needed to prevent his career fizzling out in a bit of a damp squib.
Impact substitutes 1987-2012 inclusive

Michael Kavanagh
Paul Murphy
Left corner backs

I must be imagining the 10 or so points he got in the 09 final so?
As for Nicky English being better than Kelly- Not a chance. English had style but he also had 5 match winners playing alongside him in the forwards. Eoin Kelly single handedly carried the 4th biggest hurling county for at least half a decade. A bit like Mullane is doing with Waterford now. Saying he didn’t make the most of his ability because of lifestyle and injuries doesn’t change the fact he was the best of his era.
OK. I’ll give you that he played well in the 2009 final.
I’d still rank Mullane, English and probably Brennan ahead of him though, despite the fact that he had more talent than at least two of those players.
Corner forward
- Paul Flynn
- DJ Carey
- Eoin Kelly
- Flash Eddie
- Nicky English
- Joe Deane
DJ could play anywhere but I’ll always remember the damage he did in 02 against us. I perceive shefflin, Ben O’Connor and a few more as a wing forwards. Lar not included for various reasons. Flynn will always be my favourite hurler. Man was a genius!
