Not a top six.

Not a top six either

I thought it was a top five for some reason.

  1. John Mullane
  2. Pat Fox

no 11
Delcan Ryan
Niall McArthy
Martin Storey
John Troy
John Power
Gary Kirby

Niall McCarthy ranked ahead of Joe Cooney and Henry Shefflin?

Shefflin never really plays at 11 for KK…he’s the top of any list of mine @ 11,12,14,15 depending on where he decides to go. Preferred all of the above over cooney at 11…always thought he was more of a score taker than a through bred 11…great player alright and his first half performance v Cork in '90 remains the best 30mins i have ever seen in an AI Final…actually, you are correct…you could put him in instead of Troy, Kirby etc

Yeah well Cooney had his best hurling done before 1995 which is when Clare people first heard of hurling and they’ve never forgiven Shefflin for his role in the Eyeball Quinn affair

Left Corner-Backs

Ollie Canning
Frank Lohan
Jackie Tyrrell
Brian Murphy
Willie O’Connor
Martin Hanamy

Shefflin played at 11 in the 2006 and 2009 All-Ireland finals. Like DJ Carey, it’s hard to identify him with any one position as he moved around quite a bit. For me though Shefflin was a natural 11 more than any other position, although he wasn’t there for a massive amount of time. But somewhere in the half forward line anyway. I’d probably put 14 down as Carey’s position as that’s where I think he did his best work.

Goalkeepers

Damien Fitzhenry
Brendan Cummins
Joe Quaid
Davy Fitzgerald
John Commins
Ken Hogan

Left corner forwards 1987-2012 inclusive

  1. Lar Corbett
  2. Nicholas English
  3. Paul Flynn
  4. John Fitzgibbon
  5. Joe Deane
  6. Richie Hogan

Shefflin was #11 in 2002 final too. I think he has been most valuable for Kilkenny at #11.
2006 was the most important one for me. He became the organiser at puck outs for splitting defenders which was key over the years.

The problem with this thread is that forwards tend to move around a lot.

12 corner-forwards named and no Eddie Brennan?
