National Hurling League 2011

Fine road there now, you’d be up and down in no time.

5 hours driving the night before a game is not ideal. But you’d know that if you played.

You didnt go, you answered the question, let it the fuck go.

The Wexford contingent seemed to travel, so is that it then?

Nah, both statements equally retarded. Poor Kev, fuckin total meltdown mode for quite a while now, needs more than a hug I feel.

That Kerry score is way off WTB. Down scored 3-17. Lost by 3 points I think. Magic Johnson was sent off in the second half for slating the kerry FB but they rallied strongly and ran them close. Kerry were cruising at half time and took their foot off the gas. Very open in the relegation spot still. Between Kerry, Down & Westmeath I’d say.

What did he do Turenne?

He got booked for failing to hook Horgan initially, didn’t see the second incident

Yeah I saw it after. Do you have connections in Kerry hurling, Julio? You seem to know a bit about them.

If the divisions are to be re-organised relegation might not matter yet. How they’ll balance Div 2/3 is beyond me though.

The first incident was absolutely ridiculous.

Without trying to sound too Kevish I know a few of the lads playing. Try to get to see a couple of games a year and always keep a look out for results.
I think they should leave the divisions as is. Division 2 is competitive enough at the moment.

I thought he was poor to be honest. Gave very little protection to the fella trying to play the ball. This has been creeping in more and more over the past few years though.

I thought the same last year. I had no qualms about us going down and I was making the point that we would earn it to get wins before most. I have my doubts now though. We were still competitive against the better the teams in 2008 and 2009. After one year in Division 2 that gap had grown massively. There are other factors behind that but I think it has severely damaged us. It’s damaged Wexford as well.

I definitely wouldn’t be one for fucking over the less competitive teams either. I was in Croke Park for the Meagher/Rackard/Ring finals last year and I thought it was a disgrace how Nicky Brennan robbed them of their big day before the Liam McCarthy semi-finals. One of the biggest problems with restructuring the league is the drop off between division two and division three, never mind the gap between one and two.

One option with the league of course is to go a bit more radical with it, creating a top division of two groups of eight. This would probably mean two groups like:

A - Kilkenny, Waterford, Cork, Offaly, Clare, Laois, Antrim, Westmeath

B - Tipperary, Galway, Dublin, Limerick, Wexford, Carlow, Down, Kerry

You’re still looking at seven games for most teams and nine for the top 2 from either side, almost the exact same as it is now. However, the same question comes back to haunt it. This system would largely guarantee the top 10 or 12 teams safety from relegation. One of the major features of the current system is the very real danger of relegation for 2 or 3 teams in Division One, and the very lively competition for promotion in Division Two.

The question then is whether the danger of relegation is a good enough reason to maintain the current system. What benefit does it actually bring? Laois and Carlow have definitely turned in improved performances in the championship over the last two years, but is that attributable to the league system or to other factors? Either way, anyone from Clare, Wexford, or Offaly would argue that the current system is not cost-free either.

I know where you’re coming from but a whistle happy ref would only make a fuck of a game in those conditions. As it happened we got a good competitive game with the better team edging it. It could have been a lot worse.

After his roasting in the Kilkenny game Conor O’Brien has been cut from the Tipp panel along with Hammersley, Paddy Fanning and Hugh Moloney

I told the truth about him on PV and was banned for it but I am finally vindicated. Thought Hammersley might get a better stab at it than six weeks.

Sunday 6 March

Allianz Hurling League Division 1

Cork 1-20 1-17 Galway, Pairc Ui Chaoimh FT
Kilkenny 2-16 0-17 Wexford, Nowlan Park FT
Offaly 1-13 2-23 Dublin, O’Connor Park FT

Allianz Hurling League Division 2

Carlow 2-17 1-12 Kerry, Dr Cullen Park FT
Down 2-11 1-25 Limerick, Ballygalget FT
Westmeath 2-17 1-27 Clare, Cusack Park FT

I’m not sure I approve of Carlow’s unfair advantage in this division

showed a clip on tv

looked like no one went to these games

I brought up this before on this thread mate, nobody goes to watch their county’s play anymore it seems.

There was no-one at the Clare game.

I’m done with hurling. Not sure about football.
