Cork lead by one, five left. Laughable free given to Colin Fennelly a minute ago after he’d carried for about 12 steps.

Another soft free given against William Egan there to bring KK level.

I thought the same on first viewing but on slow mo you can see taps the ball on the hurl and the Cork lad had grabbed him by the arm.

Cork win by 2, Richie Power sent off at the end, seemedto be for nothing much. Lehane MOTM again.

Was he sent off for the over head pull? That was harmless. Not one of Wadding’s finest hours.

Galway are still Waterford’s bitches.

Power pulled early and high. He can have zero complaints. Best result from a Cork perspective in ages. Really gets the feel good factor and positivity going which was badly needed. Don’t know how Lehane ended up with man of the match. The whole Cork forward faded out of it for long periods in the 2nd half. McDonnell, Cadogan and Egan were all v good all through.

That was a poor and disjointed performance from our point of view. Eoin Murphy is one for the future but he was anonymous today. How they stayed looking at Matt Ruth for an hour I’ll never know. JJ was given a bit of a chasing by Lehane, who looks like the real deal, although JJ in the championship is a different animal so I wouldn’t be too worried yet.
A lot of wides driven. TJ Reid not at the races. Midfield more than matched by the Cork pair. Food for thought for the boss.

Well done to Cork though. Their defending was excellent. McDonnell looks very solid, Egan is a good wing back, in general they worked very hard for each other and denied us any clear cut goal chances which is no mean feat.
Good midfield pairing, Lehane a class act but Naughton continues to frustrate. He can be sublime for 20 odd minutes and then just vanish.

Good day for Cork who are going nicely but a disconcerting one for us while not yet worrying.

Congrats to Cork. There is plenty of progress to see in that team. Lehane, Coughlan, Sweetman [couldn’t resist], McDonnell and Egan should have places nailed down down for the Championship. Munster will be very interesting this year. Tipp seem to still be the team to beat but they are being caught by the pack. Waterford got their house in order somewhat today and Galway gave another timely reminder on why you should never ever bet on them. [Shut up Mac! :D]

Same old, same old for Kilkenny at this time of year. We seem to always lose an away game in the league. This year Cork, last year Galway, the year before Tipp. Nothing to be too concerned with overall given the preseason nature of the match. Michael Fennelly was pretty poor. Eoin Murphy was anonymous, he’ll be our sub goalie then. Matt Ruth, Joyce, Reid not really showing well. Richie Hogan had some awful wides. Lehane had his way with JJ early on.

I’d almost rather we get a hiding off someone in the coming weeks as a bit of a kick up the hole. It worked well for us last year. My concern is that we’ll arrive into our first game in the championship against [most likely] Dublin and start flat and fail to pick it up. The net result would be a Dublin win over Kilkenny in championship hurling that feels like it’s borderline overdue.

In saying all that, Wadding put on one of the worst displays of refereeing I can remember. He was poor for both sides but we’ll have to live with a suspension because of his inept showing.
If you don’t know the rules you shouldn’t be refereeing intercounty matches. Richie Hogan’s yellow was not even a foul, it was a perfectly legal dispossession.
If you don’t know how to apply the rules you shouldn’t be refereeing intercounty matches. Richie Power’s red was laughable. When the incident itself happened I had no idea who had been penalised. Then when Power was called aside it was surprising as he is not and never has been a dirty player. He took the red with no complaint which is a credit to him. Then the replay showed…not even a foul. C’mon maan!
If you are not fit, you should not be refereeing intercounty matches. Granted it is a hot day and all but the man was baked in sweat from the moment he threw in the ball.

Are the GAA fully intent in taking any kind of pulling on the ball out of the game? Like, if Richie Power gets a red from that you will just have players trying to double on the ball in the air less and less which is a shame because when done properly it’s one of the great skills in the game.
I’ve already talked on here about how pulling on the ball on the ground is a dying art as well. Players rather fight for the ball on the ground by tapping and kicking the ball into space. Anytime I hear people say “We can win if we get back to ground hurling” makes me laugh as it shows clearly that that person is not living in the real world. Hurlers do not pull on the ball anymore for fear of their opponent nipping in, tipping the ball away and having a hurl broken off them for their troubles. There is a large contingent of uninformed hurling fans who think that anyone who breaks their hurl off someone should be a straight red every time. It’s rarely the case. In fact, if you really want to be dirty you’d turn the blade the other way.
The really baffling part about the Power incident is that he didn’t break his hurl and there wasn’t a huge level of force in the stroke. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of suspension he gets.

Thanks for the thanks lads. Ye’ll still walk the AI.

In the five games so far, Tipp have only scored 2 goals and shipped 8. Warning signs indeed.

Apparently they’ve been told by Ryan to take their points and worry about their goals later down the line - fuck knows why but there you are.

Fair enough, but when your leding goalscorer retires, surely you want someone to step up or give someone a go for that? The problem is they’re leaking them as well.

Munster could be shaping up nicely now to be fairly competitive. Tipp looking dodgy, Cork improving with every game, Waterford showing signs of life and Clare flying.

Of course, it can’t touch the glory that is the Leinster championship with the imperiousness of counties like Kilkenny, Dublin and, and, and erm Galway, Offaly, Wexford and Laois.

Don’t forget Limerick, mate.

Fairly sure everyone has already agreed that Limerick have been defeated by Tipp in the first round there Dunph.
