As mentioned on here before the NFL system could be easily adapted to GAA and still preserve the provincial crowns.
You could have teams out every second weekend beginning at start of June with football and hurling alternating.

Well it starts off the season in May and June when there is nothing else happening. By the time it’s over a few decent football matches have come online to keep the gaa momentum going to the finish
