Natural Disasters

Unknown how it started but it’s been very dry and high winds from hurricane Dora, lot of power lines down.

Probably the most likey. With all the extreme weather in various parts of the us i cant understand when they dont bury power lines. Every year they get knocked. I noticed this during the winter in the north east with so much snow. It happens every uear that they have to be repaired

I also can’t understand why they build their houses out of cardboard.

They never heard of the 3 pigs and the big bad wolf

I’d be very wary of bushfires this coming summer in Australia.

Bush fires in '19. Floods in '21/22 A hot dry summer predicted. Not good.

I read something about this before. As well as the usual trees and branches falling on wires, the wires were originally mounted too close together. So high winds can cause sparks falling onto dry grass and shrubs.

Far too many to replace them all or put them underground.

Would Hawaii, around the islands, have experienced fires in the past? Is it just a case, like in California, too many humans, and housing built where there was none in the past? Like those housing estates the English built on flood plains.

Non native vegetation is a factor anyway in spreading the fires quicker.

Hawaii is tropical and gets a lot of rain compared to California, even in summer there’s a fair bit of rain. It’s been very dry though and this storm that blew through made it a perfect storm. Although the rainy season ends in May you’d still get absolutely drenched outside every few days in summer.

Would take years but replacing them every year knowing they will be knocked.

The woke lad in charge of emergency response in Maui has resiged for “health” reasons. He has come in for criticism in the past week for two decisions made in response to the recent tragic fires and loss of life.

In his woke wisdom he decided that (a) water is sacred and refused to release reserves of water to fight the fires, and (b) refused to activate sirens to warn the island population that they were about to be burned to death, on the grounds the sirens might cause panic.

This is what happens when woke wankers like @glasagusban and @Bandage are put in charge of anything of importance.

“The public is trained to seek higher ground in the event that the siren is sounded ,” he said. “Had we sounded the siren that night, we’re afraid that people would have gone mauka,” meaning inland, or toward the mountainside. “And if that was the case, then they would have gone into the fire

The first point, the farmers needed the water for their crops. Spreading it on hillside fires didn’t seem to be best advice, until it was too late. In hindsight…

Second point, the sirens are for tsunamis, which would make people run/drive towards the fires. Best advice again.

The real failure was the text messaging alarm system. That does certainly seem like a great idea but wasn’t fully up and running.

The woke wagons are circling
