Netflix

Missed this first time round. I watched the two Summerhouse series this week, fantastic stuff.

On the 6th of January all WWE content moves to Netflix.

What that means in Ireland is all TV shows (Raw, SmackDown, NXT) and Premium Live Events (i.e. Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble etc) will be live on Netflix and stream able immediately after.

And a currently unspecified amount of the WWE back catalog.

My young lad loves it when he sees it but I’ve no clue what show to watch or how to get into it if you know what I mean? Is there a weekly match of the day type show or what.

This is how it works.

There are two main TV shows each week.

Raw every Monday.
Was a 3 hour show each week , until recently being scaled back to 2. Not clear if it’ll go back to 3 when they get to Netflix.

SmackDown every Friday.
2 hour show.

Those shows build stories toward Premium Live Events(formerly known as Pay Per Views). These include WrestleMania is April, Summerslam in August and Royal Rumble in January.

This time of year is the start of the build of stories toward WrestleMania in April. With the move to Netflix the first Raw on the 6th of January is being treated as a de facto Premium Live Event with big matches being planned for it.

For people who are fans or were fans and have Netflix, the post Vince McMahon era is noticibly better than what came before. I’m looking forward to what they do in the next few months because there is huge potential there with the roster they have available.

Are they scheduled to come to ireland?

This must be costing Netflix a fortune. So they’ve exclusive rights to all WWE live programming going forward? A Wrestlemania or Royal Rumble would surely each have raked in tens of millions each in pay per views. Although I suppose the proliferation of dodgy boxes and illegal streams would have seriously dented that model in more recent times. Is the WWE network being wound down or will old content remain on it?

They come to Ireland once or twice every year. Just in a relatively inconsequential way. They do a night in the 3Arena which is untelevised and will have a bunch of matches that can be thought of as ā€œfriendliesā€ essentially. Nothing will happen at an untelevised event that matters in the televised storylines.

There’s a hierarchy to events. In my opinion it’s this.
Wrestlemania
Other Top Tier Premium Live Events(Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, Summerslam, Money in the Bank)
The rest of the Premium Live Events
Smackdown
Raw.

There is talk of having a WrestleMania in London.
In the last 3 years WWE has expanded internationally with their Premium Live Events. They’ve had ones in England, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico and Canada. That was never a thing in the past. A big show happening in Ireland is inevitable. We won’t get a wrestlemania. I’d be delighted with any of the Top Tier ones but I think that’s unlikely too. Location wise the talk has been RDS.

There are 5 Irish wrestlers on the main roster of WWE at the moment. It’ll happen, probably in the next 18 months.

They only have Raw in America. $5b over 10 years. With an option of 10 more.

We’ve gotten lucky over here that everything is moving to Netflix.

WWE network is on life support. Being replaced by Netflix here. Not sure about other countries.

Watched the first couple of episodes of the Senna show. It’s superb.

The kids are hooked on ā€˜Is it Cake’. Fuck me it’s one brutal show.

Carry-On is Con Air levels of silliness.

Great entertainment all the same. As is Con Air

Oh I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I tried to enjoy it but it was hard to ignore the holes in the plot as big as the Grand Canyon

The JonBenƩt Ramsey doc is absolutely bonkers, well worth a watch.

I’m fairly late to the party with this one but this is a great auld watch.

Shows in foreign languages are always a good shout (1) you have to actually pay attention (2) it’s much harder to tell if the actors are terrible at their job or not.
